It is really embedded in Shell’s core operations which requires them to conduct all of their activities in an environmentally and socially responsible way. Sustainable development requires balancing short and long term interests, integrating economic, environmental and social considerations into business decision-making. For Shell, sustainable development involves engaging with stakeholders to better understand and manage the impact (both positive and negative) that their operations and products have on society and the environment, and to identify future business opportunities. The global energy consumption will be rising due to the rapid growth in countries such as China and India. With this rapid growth, it is one of the biggest challenges faced especially by energy companies and governments to balance this growth in an environmentally responsible way. Therefore, the rapid growth in global energy consumption needs to be balanced with environmental protection.
