It was a combination of things such as Nick’s “well-shaved [lawn] by Gatsby’s Gardener”(Fitzgerald 84), which would show how selfish his action was of even when he did something nice but only to get closer to what he truly wanted, Daisy. Or when Gatsby “half expected her to wander into one of his parties one night”(Fitzgerald 79), which would make that action of low moral because he didn’t care for any of his guest there at the party only Daisy. Outside of daisy Gatsby was also not virtuous due to his bootlegging confirmed by Tom who claimed “who is this Gatsby anyhow?\Some big bootlegger”(Fitzgerald 107). Gatsby not working in a legitimate job and lying about it showed how unvirtuous Gatsby truly was and the fact of that drove Daisy away. The fact that Gatsby looked like some notorious kingpin of illegitimacy in his work and words caused Daisy to stay where she felt safe which was in the arms of Tom.
