"Poky and Friends: Tails of Friendship" The story Poky and Friends: Tails of Friendship by Bruce Talkington starts out by the Poky Little Puppy wanting to go exploring. As Poky is exploring, he runs into Sylvester the Snake. Poky runs away, but it seems that everywhere he goes, Sylvester is always at the same place as him. Finally, Poky meets Kit, a skunk who was practicing her spraying in the garden and ends up scaring Sylvester off (Talkington). The book would be considered a folktale, because it has a "general setting, simple plot, includes animals, and the characters are flat" ("Children's Literature"). The folktale Poky and Friends: Tails of Friendship is considered children's literature because the story is relatable, the words are easy to read and understand, and there is a moral to the story. The characters in the story are flat characters, due to the fact they are very simple and not much is known about them ("Children's Literature"). All that is known about the characters is Poky is a puppy, Kit is a skunk, and Sylvester is a snake. The words in the story are relatively short and are words that younger children already know (Chen). The illustrations in the story match the plot line and help readers to fully understand what is going on.
