The novel The Outsiders by S.E Hinton is a story famous for the consistent theme of brotherhood and loyalty. The book takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1965 where the town is divided into two distinct social groups, the Socs’ (the rich and sophisticated) and the Greasers (the poor underdogs). The main character, Ponyboy Curtis, a greaser, experiences some conflict with the Socs’ which results in Bob, a Soc, trying to drown him.
