In “Brother, Victim, Criminal” the essence of life is being dramatized as it starts off with stating that “the world has ended” (Owen 1). The speaker is an unidentified character besides us knowing he’s the brother of Joel by the line Joel, “my brother is no more.” (Owen 2). In the poem, the narrator mourns the loss of his brother, Joel. There isn’t much action besides the change in the character as he takes in his brothers passing. It even gets to the point that it made him say the world has ended because of one death. His motivation is a combination of the passing of his brother and his outlook on passings. The form of the poem is well made. The structure is simple, yet effective as it gets the emotions of the character across in few lines.
