Brother G is a 60 year old man who lives in a religious, residential facility. He is approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 250 pounds. He has light blue eyes and light brown hair. He wears glasses and walks with a somewhat unsteady gait. Brother G is extremely personable and friendly, he enjoys pleasant conversation with others. Brother G has been living with bipolar disorder since he was in grade school. His condition significantly impacts his relationship with others. Brother G’s environment greatly promotes his occupational performance and satisfaction, due to the services provided by the facility in which he resides. A large part of his life centers around his religious faith, and the facility enhances his engagement in these occupations by providing daily mass, weekly confession, and private prayer spaces. However, occupational performance and satisfaction are limited by the rules and standards of the facility.
Although Brother G’s chronic health condition is not debilitating, but it impacts his occupational performance and satisfaction. Brother G receives Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) every six weeks and takes strong medications which cause nausea and tiredness, hindering his occupational performance. However, the ECT does decrease the frequency of negative outbursts, which in turn increases his occupational performance.
