New York city also known as NYC, is situated in the centre of the New York state in the Northeastern part of the United states. New York state is the fourth mostly populated state and the seventh most densely populated state in the United States. With a total population of just under 20 million people in the whole state and a population of around 8 and a half million in NYC itself.

In 2013 a record number of 54.3 million of tourists visited NYC. This means that yearly there are more outsiders rather than New Yorkers in the city. With this record number of tourists NYC made around 58 billion dollars of profit. What attracts such huge amounts of tourists to NYC? Its main span measures 1,595 feet (486 metres) across. The Bridge connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1964.

The bridge weighs almost 15,000 tons and contains about 15,000 miles of cables. Each of the 4 main supporting cables is almost 16 inches in diameter. Because in the early years of the bridge, altho it was state of the arch newest technology some people didn't feel safe about crossing it as it was a one of its kind. In 1884 the showman PT Barnum led 21 elephants across the bridge. He wanted to show that this bridge was strong and could take the load of any car, bus or truck.

If you're planning to walk across the bridge, it will take about 30 minutes to travel the mile long length of the Brooklyn Bridge and at a moderate pace you will burns about 100 calories. As you're walking across make sure you don't end up buying the bridge. As in 1901, a man was sentenced to two years in jail for ‘selling’ the bridge to a tourist. It is illegal to be trading the Brooklyn bridge unless you own it.
