Brooklyn Bowl Reflection

So I recently went to an event at the Brooklyn bowl which was a new experience for me. My friends convinced me to go to a rave there and I really did not know what to expect. The reason I chose this as my location was because there was so much diversity in the venue. There was a lot of different ethnic groups I observed. When we got inside I felt so on edge because there was so many different types of people in one place that it was kind of overwhelming. It was not in a bad way I just felt like so much was going on. Once we got closer to the dj I got more excited. Once we got to the front we had to go back and meet some people my friend was meeting up. As we were leaving the crowd I was observing all the people around us and I felt afraid because there was a lot of …show more content…
At some point in the night I got separated from my friends in the crowd. I felt like I needed a breather so I went to the balcony in the venue hoping maybe I would find my friends there. I quickly regretted going out there because it was so cold. Some white guy came up to me and asked if I had a lighter and I said no and then he started talking to me. I told him I lost my friends and he just stayed and talked to me. He was telling me how he always comes to these rave events for a little get away. I told him it was my first time but I really liked the vibe, because everyone was so nice and just wanting to have a good time. I'm not sure how we got into the topic about politics but we started talking about Trump and how hes so racist. I asked him what he felt about the black lives movement and he told me that it sucks that we live in a world that still makes race such a big issue. He also said that we live in such a messed up world that sometimes it is nice to get away and go to an event such as the one we are at to just have fun. One of the things he said that really stood out to me was that everyone here just wants to have fun and dance no one here cares who’s black, white, blue,

On September 9th I attended a Phi Slam event called Kaleidoscopic Color-Dressed Chromatic Dance Fest. This was a social dance event that is completely dry and it is essentially a giant dance party. The guys in Phi Slam, which is a Christian organization that is similar to a fraternity but they do not do typical frat things such as drinking, hazing or smoking, set up the event. Phi Slam has events just like fraternities and sororities do. This event was just one of the many events they put on throughout the year.…

In Firoozeh Dumas’ “Laughing Without an Accent,” she writes many accounts about how her differences made her and her family stand out, and not necessarily in a good way. One account that I can relate to is in the chapter, entitled “Peelings, Nothing More Than Peelings. In this chapter, Dumas describes how because they had a lighter more European skin than most Iranians, they were put higher on the social ladder. However, this also caused them to be mistaken as foreigners in the market where vendors would attempt to rack up the price even though she knew better.…

I’ve usually learned in hard way because frankly, I love to challenge myself to expand my personal capacity. Although I had already talked to one of my classmates about having interview with her as a Caucasian woman, I decided to do it with my cousin’s friend, Jacob, who I met in my place for the first time during Thanksgiving holidays. Interviewing Jacob about his interactions with other cultures has made me realize that I have a lot to learn about the meaning of the privilege and holding it. Jacob was a 24-year-old Caucasian, who lived in Missouri his entire life. Though he was visiting California for the second time in his life, he was in a Persian house for the first time.…

In my revision of my Assignment #4 I did not feel the need to change much. I added words or phrases throughout the paper that would make it sound better. I also added why The Central Building was named after William Beardshear, this is located at the end of the first paragraph in the first section titled, “History of Beardshear Hall.” I decided to take out some things. I took out unnecessary words/phrases.…

It has been a long time since I have seen this film. I had forgotten some of the more detailed information, but I still remembered the essence of Bill’s story from this documentary. Bill Wilson was just an alcoholic searching for a solution to his problem, and at the beginning he found that the problem was alcohol. It wasn’t until further into his journey that he came to the realization that the true problem was him, and that the alcohol was but a symptom of his disease that dwelled in his mind, as well as his body. Having found this new perspective on alcohol and alcoholism, it set in motion a recovery program founded by an alcoholic for alcoholics that changed the world.…

I recently went to an AA meeting at the Lamb Center in Fairfax, Virginia. It is a small center and by approaching the center I could tell that the meeting would be held in a smaller circle than what my classmates told me from their experiences. Even though I am a very relaxed person, when it comes to meeting total strangers I had my reservation on what to expect. We were instructed to be sitting in the back and basically just observe; yet I could see that “hiding” in the back at this place was an impossible task. After I parked my car and approached the door and elderly gentlemen approached me and asked if I was here for the meeting.…

The third step is to be completely natural and not so judgmental. If you start a friendship based on lies and being someone you are not sooner or later the real personality comes to light and then how would you want to be taken seriously and respected amongst others. You should never pretend to be who you are not. There is no point in trying to fit in with others if it affects your emotional, mental, and physical way of being. Also, avoid being judgmental just because someone looks looks or acts different from us doesn’t mean they better or worse than anybody.…

In the film Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, it has shown me how much young girls and women in worldwide are not getting the equal opportunities compared to men. As I was watching the film, many young girls are not getting educated due to their non-supportive environments where their family traditions are for women to be working for the family as they do not believe in women getting education, and as a girl they are to be married off to or sell their body to support family financially. Before I watched this film, I knew women in other countries did not get education because their family economic situations and unsupportive family for females in the household, but these ideas were just so normalized to…

He stepped closer to me and called me by a name I didn’t recognize then he took a hold of my hand and pulled me deeper inside the house to the backyard. We both stood in front of this large white drape covering a door to the backyard, it had a faint purple pink colors shining through. I looked up at him and he gave me warm smile and he pulled the curtain open and pulled me outside. I looked around in confusion, it was pitch black outside with a faint purple light coming out of who knows where and people dancing and talking without a sense , then I turned and the guy who was with me just dropped to the ground talking in gibberish and just disappeared. Then out of nowhere I was laughing and have a great time, like as if I was watching myself.…
