Bronx City Town Letter

I am writing you this letter in regards to the plan to build a park on the empty lot between Westchester avenue and Brook avenue here in the Bronx. My fellow scholars and I feel that the construction of this site would be amazing for our community. We want the Bronx to start being known for its art, beauty, and for all that is good here. Building the park is a phenomenal idea. The area is in desperate need of some tlc. However, I have an idea on how to make the development of the site much more sustainable. One main concern my peers and I had was the contribution to air pollution from the construction trucks. I believe this problem could be fixed. In order to build anything, materials are required. For a big project, those materials need to be brought to the construction site with trucks. According to www.ususa.org, it says “Diesel emissions of nitrogen oxides …show more content…
The trucks cause many problems for people, so because they’ll be used less, the response from the community would be a great response. The trucks cause traffic! They’re large vehicles so they take up a lot of space. The trucks also take up parking. The area around the development site is very busy, so people look for the nearest place to park their cars. It is more convenient for members of the community, and people in the area in general. It’ll be less convenient if they have to drive far for parking. Many accidents could happen with the use of the trucks. “More people will be killed in traffic accidents involving large trucks this year than have died in all of the domestic commercial airline crashes over the past 45 years” This quote from www.nytimes.com shows a predicition about the amount of truck deaths based on what has happened in the city thus far. If amount of trucks used for the production of this park was kept minimal, it’ll be great for the community, the environment and future residents who will utilize the

The town of Sunset has recently purchased this lot and plans to use it to benefit the community. Smack in the center of New York City — in the confines of Central Park — there are ghostly vestiges of a 19th century neighborhood that once was vibrant and thriving but now is largely forgotten: Seneca Village. No one knows that this prestigious and fancy park that sits in the middle of Manhattan New York City, central park, has such a repugnant history, also one that needs to be told. Seneca village, whose name suggests a Native American influence, arose when free, emancipated and escaped blacks bought property in the area in 1825-1857. Moreover, the 1800s played a major role in the history of Seneca village because during this period, people opinions and sentiments about slavery started to change. In New York for instance, slavery was…

In essence, it is important to remember global origins to achieve community action. This was one of the earliest realizations of the Japanese Americans, for they began in 1986 to try and preserve part of Little Tokyo through community action. It was the Little Tokyo Community Development Advisory Committee that campaigned and established Little Tokyo’s historical district on East First Street. Some of the oldest Japanese American businesses in the country are on First Street, and so the rich culture plays a big role in establishing a sense of community in Little Tokyo.
