Yuki is conflicting between two cultures American and Japanese. Thus, it is vital for counselors to be aware of any self-biases. Additionally, it is important for the counselor to understand both cultural aspects in order to help clients with their conflicts. In this case, counselors must recognize that belonging can have multiple meanings to different individuals (Bond & Cartmell, 2015, p. 9i8). Yuki’s conflicts with both American culture and Japanese culture has led difficulties with fitting in with peer groups. In general, socio-cognitive in a child occurs due to a web of socio-economic status, social environment, educational system, and culture (Komiya & Mizokawa, 2014, p. 145). The counselor needs to be able to incorporate multiple aspects for each culture. Yuki needs a counselor that is patient, and considers multiple aspects such as external and internal context. Lui & Eckert (2014) depict the understanding of individuals roles and their personalities through global or multidimensional perspectives (p. 657). In addition, Cartmel & Bond (2015) illustrates that respecting religious and cultural differences is important in relation to belongingness.
