On October 28, 2017, I attended Desert Hot Springs High School’s theatrical performance, Love Sick, a play produced by John Cariani. Mr. Landmann is the head director of the theater department at DHSHS and was able to execute a great show with the help of his students: Matilde Alejandro, Megan Johnson, Bethany Navarro, Luis Salazar, Nathaniel Esparza, Natalia Martinez, Angel Limas, Esmeralda Hernandez, Esmeralda Salazar, Nicholas Jacob Gamboa, Baylee Bryant, Jonathan Calderon, Erika Aleman, Jesus Hernandez, Austin Aguirre, Edna Escobedo, Anjali Singh, Angel Ramirez, Elijah Cross, Michelle Lopez, Alondra Campos, Sadie Cunningham, Joseph Arisco, Maya Souza, Efrain Flores, Kimberly Solano, and Zauriah Cotton. Love/Sick is a play that contains lovers and dreamers that look into the agony and the happiness that comes with being in love and in relationships. To begin with, the plot of the play was very straightforward and unmissable. It outlined all the effects, good and bad, that comes with being in a relationship as well as depicting all the dilemmas.…

The importance of understanding our own family responds the strength of the emotional bond that develops with communication and building memories to share with others. This theme of understanding family surrounds the novel “The Best We Could Do,” by Thi Bui, who illustrates the stories of both her parents living in Saigon during the Vietnam War, childhood, struggles, successes, and the birth of their children.…

The short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is filled with fanciful and magical tales. Nearly all of the characters in the story seem to believe in the supernatural, particularly Ichabod Crane. Throughout the tale, the reader is shown how vast of an imagination Ichabod has. He loved to read books with marvelous tales of witchcraft and magic and hear stories of ghosts, goblins, and the like. The reader is even told “his appetite for the marvellous, and his powers of digesting it, were equally extraordinary……

Gone Home is a narrative exploration game by the company Fullbright that stars Kaitlin Greenbriar returning to her family home after being overseas. Gone Home is often questioned on the complexity of its game play, and is often thought to be more of an interactive story, however it does fulfill the requirements of a game and I will be discussing various game play mechanics in Gone Home such as the different objects and their attributes, rules for game play and the overall design that help to support the narrative, as well as how all of this is used to create an effective story and why this is the best medium for such a story. I will start by giving the briefest of summaries; the game opens with Kaitlin, who we control in a first person perspective, returning home to a locked house all set in the 90s Their is a note left…
