Brokenness In Health Care

Improved Essays
Coming into this class, I thought to myself that learning about healthcare customs, how the work is done, the why it’s done in the healthcare setting would be very interesting to learn since I have no friends or family members who work in the health care field so I don’t know the dynamics of healthcare. But once we started the class and discussed about how as human we work, think, make decisions and treat others in the same matter can affect our day-to-day life opened the horizon for me along with bring the bible readings to compare God’s plans for humanity verses our own plans for our selves and our families. During the class, we discussed about different topics, for example nature of human, assumptions, values and brokenness etc. I considered …show more content…
For example, the article we read for class about Teanne Harris who was left on the altar. She must have been heart broken because the person she was going to spend her life with left her alone in the mist of people. The brokenness could have left her depressed and lonely for months but instead she turned around and changed her life and others by sharing what she had left with Retirement Community. So she chooses to do well with it. The other example is Ebola patient, who was miles away from families and friends while dying. He must have burden of brokenness setting on his hurt but the care providers, who was working with him made me comfortable, loved and showed him that they care and he is not alone and that they are there for him and in response he thanked them. Finally, Come be my light by Mother Teresa, as child, we heard about her work, her relationship to God and people. I would have never guessed that Mother Teresa feels the same way as most of us. She states in her letter that “Lord my God, who am I that you should forsake me? The child of your love-and now become as the most hated one-the one you have thrown away as unwanted-unloved. I call, I cling, I want- and there is no On to answer”. Mother Teresa feels alone and that the darkness is great and she feels unwanted and forsaken and with that brokenness, she is struggling with her self but she is till waling with God in faith and choosing to do good over evil.
So, brokenness comes different situations and sizes too, it’s up us how we handle with the brokenness and or use that brokenness. Good or

Give examples of how the practice of ministry has affected your experience and understanding of A) God At the core of my understanding of God is a God of love in covenantal relationship with God’s children. Romans 8:38-39 says it well; “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The practice of ministry has only proven to strengthen that belief. I was called early Saturday morning to sit with a family who had just learned of the death of their daughter/granddaughter in a vehicle accident.…

The group I was placed in helped me better understand what health care is and how it impacts various lives today. For example, when dealing with Gerald’s case, I initially chose Plan B, because I was under the impression that plan a revolved around the idea of employment. Kenzie Mclean was a vital part of our group at this point because she pointed out plan B did not involve the coverage of test strips. Kenzie explained that she had a first-hand account of understanding how important test strips are as well as how costly they become Kenzie stated they were “about a dollar each.” For Gerald’s case that would have easily added up being as though he would need to take his blood sugar levels frequently.…

Despite all the resources expended on health care in the United States, sometimes treatments that are known to be effective are not used. As the Dartmouth Atlas Project has documented, the underuse of effective care is widespread and occurs even at some hospitals considered among the best in the country. A 2003 study by the Rand Corporation published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that Americans receive only about 55% percent of recommended care for a variety of common…

What I learn from this course is to understand and analyze health policy decisions and how they are formed and implemented within the healthcare sector. I believed implementing policy would be such simple by determining the dilemma within the society and ascertain potential solutions to direct the certain issues by developing a good structure of health policy. However, I did not deem that there is a variation of barriers to achieving policy, and one of the prominent barriers would be the political ideology. I did not acknowledge that political ideology represents a significant role impacting the health policy in either positive or negative outcome depending on what the government interest for the nation. Like Sylvia Nobel Tesh, once said,…

An exercise in class allowed me to understand my own reasoning for helping others as well as what may be my own selfish reasons for seeking this profession. For example, at one point in the exercise, I broke ground into my own self-assessment and found insight that I was partially seeking the profession for money and for my savior complex. I felt that this observation of myself showed that I was overall, functioning normally with both healthy and minimal unhealthy motivations. Another concern that came across my mind is when I have a…

Throughout this class, I have learned so much about the aspects of the community health, agencies, drug abuse, health rates, and disease types and control. These were all topics that were greatly interesting to me and I feel like the class improved my understanding of the way in which many communities operate. It also taught me the correct meaning of many terms that I thought I knew what they meant, but I had heard them used incorrectly so often that I associated the wrong meaning with the word.…
