The themes in Romeo and Juliet reflect, the author, William Shakespeare's life in the 1590’s. Also the influence from Italian poet Francesco Petrarch, known as the father of love poetry, is felt throughout the play. Love is known to be one of the biggest themes. The love between Romeo and Juliet makes them defy many boundaries. Love is shown to be a powerful and destructive force by reconciliation, broken relationships and the statement love leads to death.
