A man in relation to his natural child or children: the definition of a father. By this standard, my father has succeeded; but believe me when i say that that is the one and only way he has lived up to the title of father.
I was very young and my brother and I had to go to Joel’s (my father) house on the weekends. There was no responsible adult, no supervision, and no feeling of home. My brother and i shared a couch for a bed, we rode on the laps of our step siblings, or in the bed of the truck, and of course, there was the omnipresent smell of tobacco, beer, and cigarettes.
