British Rights In Boston

These last few years have been horrendous in the colony of Boston. The British have been unruly and selfish to us. They are demanding things that are unheard of, and not giving us the rights necessary to us. As human beings, and British subjects, we have the natural rights, as expressed by fellow English philosopher John Locke, of life, liberty, and property. The mother country is taking these natural rights away from us by imposing unnecessary acts and attempting to create a stronger political force here in the colonies. Among my accomplices and me, these taxes have been straining my family and me. As a lawyer in Boston, the taxes have been heavier on me than anyone else. It is just not right. Whenever I have to write reports, I must pay a tax on the paper I choose to use. Also, the British have now made me pay for my law degree. It is absurd. The Townshend Acts now make me pay on tax on everyday necessities. Not only do I have to pay for my paper, I also have to pay for my tea. Another aspect of life that I am unhappy about is the fact that wherever I go in town, there are British soldiers standing around, monitoring everyone’s move. It is now clear to everyone in Boston that the mother country does not trust us. We are British subjects and deserve to be treated like them, but they do not trust us anymore. Instead, they now need to watch our every move as if we are criminals. We have done nothing wrong, and it does not need to be this way. Something needs to be done to undo these terrible taxes and political changes. We as British subjects deserve to live like we are at home in the mother
