India was under the control of many different countries including Britain. While India had many of their own cultures and languages, Britain introduced India to the English language and culture. English gave certain portions of India more opportunities. The English culture in general opened up doors for India that they couldn't imagine (Rodriguez, par. 5). Military and government was a big part under Britain’s domain, the army preserves the most British tradition which was having a military ceremony in which those who serve or have served pay their respects to their government. Many gather around for this ceremony and then sing a hymn, one that Mahatma Gandhi loved (Winchester, par. 45-52). Much of India was changed, India was a great country before the British colonization and once the British took hold, India was lead into a spiral of despair.
