Summary Brisingr tells the story of Eragon, one of the two last free members of the dragon riders, a peace keeping order that was almost fully destroyed by the Dark King, Galbatorix. The story begins when Eragon goes with his cousin, Roran, to rescue Katrina, Rorans fiancée. After a fierce battle against Galbatorix’s most powerful servants, the Ra’zac, Katrina is rescued and Roran and Katrina escape to join the Varden, an organization that opposes the Dark King. Eragon stays back to decide what to do with Katrina’s father, Sloan, whom he found in the tower where Katrina was hidden. Because Sloan had murdered a watchman from Eragon’s village, Eragon knew that Sloan must be punished. However, in order to prevent Sloan’s hanging, Eragon decided to lay a curse upon him instead that would prevent him from ever approaching Katrina again. He sent him to the Elven kingdom and secretly asked the queen to restore Sloan’s eyesight if he repented for what he had done. …show more content…
On his way back, he rested in a town where he found his friend, Arya, a female elf who had been sent to find him. Together they returned to the Varden where Eragon joyously reunited with Saphira. The next day, to Eragon’s dismay, he was sent to the Dwarven lands to secure a ruler who was sympathetic to the Varden. Once there, Eragon met up with Orik, his foster brother, a dwarf who was running for king. During the deciding meet, Eragon was almost assassinated, but was spared by a stroke of luck. The assassination was traced back to the Dwarven clan Az Sweldn rak Anhuin and the whole clan was banished. Eragon’s foster brother was chosen to be king, and Saphira came to present her gift to him. She had repaired the dwarves’ treasure, The Isidar Mithrim, which was most beautiful gem ever
