Russian Immigrants in Brighton beach Brighton beach is a neighborhood that’s located on the Oceanside of the southern part of the New York City. It’s located near the Coney Island. According to the census taken in 2010 by the United States census the neighborhood had more than 110,000 residents. Brighton beach is connected by Coney Island at ocean park way to the west and Manhattan Beach at Corbin place to the east. Sheepshead bay is at the belt park on the north and the Atlantic avenue to the south beside the beach and the board walk. It’s famous for having highly Russian population and it’s also one of the famous summer destination for new Yorkers because of its beach and the amusements park that are located in Coney Island. It got its name from British sea resort of Brighton. In the begging of 18th century the area was completely used for farming. William A. Engeman was an entrepreneur who started the development of Brighton beach. He bought the land for $ 20,000 and started building the hotels resorts and a bath house (1875) which only allowed its members to come in. Engeman made a fortune during the civil war he sold the weapons to both the union and confederate troops and that’s how he got the money and bought the land today called Brighton beach. After building the hotels and the bathhouses it drew people’s attention and in 1876 families came to the beach for vacations. And to make it more convenient for people a guy named Henry C. Murphy who also happened to name Brighton beach built the New York and Brighton beach railroad (1878). Murphy also played an important role in building the area, he built the hotel called elegant hotel later on became known as Brighton beach hotel. In the late 18th century Brighton beach became involved in amusements that helped other neighborhoods to become famous. Following that plan Brighton beach Music hall (1892) and the new Yiddish vaudeville theater (1909) were built. This helped captivate audiences with its lively entertainments. (Our
