In Spanish America, Christian Europeans could purchase luxury goods, often owned plantations, could attend lavish events and stores, and could send their kids to have a good education back in Europe. The Creole were free men who could often follow European ways of life which includes inheriting their father’s rich plantation. Jewish immigrants faced discrimination back in Europe and in the Spanish colonies due to their lack of Christian worship and rights, but Jews were still considered Europeans and had European privilege. At the bottom, indigenous people and slaves did back-breaking labor for the plantation owners who were often Christian Europeans or Creoles. Thus, if I was sent back to Argentina back in the 1800s, I would want to be a Christian European because of their access to the most extravagant privileges and respect of the lower class
