Humans with a strong sense to hunt might often get bored with hunting a common prey. They usually resort to a larger, fiercer, and more powerful form of game. Humans do not often resort to hunting each other to experience the uniqueness of capturing and eliminating their own kind. When another human, or animal, is trapped in this kind of situation, they will have to retaliate for any chance of survival. The man, or animal, with the most physical strength is not always victorious, but the one who outsmarts the other. In "The Most Dangerous Game," by Connell, Rainsford is trapped on an island with a psychotic Russian hunter, Zaroff, who is bored of hunting the usual game and resorts to hunting humans. On an island in the middle of the Caribbean, Zaroff welcomes Rainsford with honor and knowledge about who Rainsford is, creates an image about who he is, and …show more content…
This will likely frighten Rainsford because the hunter knows who he is and the hunting tactics he uses; this could mean that Zaroff could be one step ahead of the game. Zaroff greats Rainsford with, "'it is a very great pleasure and honor to welcome Mr. Sanger Rainsford, the celebrated hunter, to [Zaroff's] home'" (23). Showing great interest and honor for Rainsford gives the impression that Zaroff is a well-educated man in the hunting community. Rainsford might imply that Zaroff is saying that Rainsford is a much better hunter than he is. Zaroff continued by reinstating that he does not only know Rainsford, and that he is an honored and renounced hunter, but he also has read about Rainsford's personal hunting experiences. Zaroff had read Rainsford's "'book about hunting snow leopards in Tibet'" (23). Zaroff most likely has more information about Rainsford that he is not sharing. Zaroff used the information about how much he knows about Rainsford to take an advantage in the hunt between he and

In the same way, Rainsford is also educated in hunting, and possibly among other topics—especially considering that Rainsford authored a book, as confirmed by Zaroff, one of his readers: "'I've read your book about hunting snow leopards in Tibet, you see.' " While the plot of the stories differs significantly, certain characterization aspects remain the same. When a person or a group of people are left to their own devices without the restraint and moral compassing of civilized society, they can quickly revert to a berserk animalistic state where nothing is off limits and it can be brutal. Rainsford experiences this idea first hand in the short story, ¨A Dangerous Game¨. In our world -- civilized and tame -- there is no ability to fathom how such a heinous act could be committed; hunting another human being for sport (Dashes & semicolon). It can only be in the isolated existence of a human, that their primal being can completely take over themselves and rationalize something so fundamentally wrong; not just murder, but murder for pleasure and sport. After falling overboard into the ocean, Rainsford…
