It was during week three that I completed the Mathematical Content Knowledge (MCK) test for the purposes of determining my level of understanding relating to certain mathematical concepts, such as multiplication, division, addition, and place value (Curtin, 2014). Before starting, I felt overly confident in my ability to successfully answer all the questions within the quiz, however, it was not until I skimmed through the questions that I began to think otherwise. Comparatively, Norma’s self-imposed isolation would be considered a foundation for her madness that is to follow. She went from being considered the virtuoso of silent movies to rapidly becoming an insignificant, disregarded movie star, which is the fundamental commencement of her seclusion from the harsh realities of the real world. Although this could be considered an act of ignorance by Norma, it could also be established that she could not physically handle her brisk decline into irrelevance. She mentally blocked out the notion that society would view her as unimportant and instead escaped to a solitary mansion where she could still feel esteemed by her butler, Max. Proof written by David Auburn is an exceptional literary work that met, and surpassed, all expectations I had for it. The protagonist of the story is a 25 year old woman named Catherine, who is a mathematical genius and struggles to maintain her mental stability at times. The story is set in Chicago, at the home of Catherine’s recently deceased father, Robert, who is a well renowned mathematician and former professor at the University of Chicago. Catherine has spent the recent years taking care of her father as he struggled with a delusional mental illness. From the early stages of the play Auburn shows us that Catherine herself is not completely mentally well, and that the time she has spent taking care of her father has not helped in this…
