Brief Summary Of The Film Nixon

The movie started out weird and I was confused with what was going on and who was who or who worked for who. The movie started out with someone trying to rob some type of office which was later found out to be the office of a democratic public official. Bob Woodward of the Washington Post tried to interview a lawyer that was attending the case but was not in the case but the lawyer did not give out any information and said that he knew nothing about what was going on and gave no type of information on the topic. He was hostile and suspicious and it seemed that he knew everything that was going on and it was suspicious that a lawyer like him was there. Some think it was the CIA trying to keep the Democratic headquarters under surveillance but …show more content…
So, someone went to go and dig some dirt on a democratic public official and it was funded and run by the Republicans trying to choose Nixon. It was sent to the president of the committee, Maurice Stans, who then sent it to Howard Hunt. Stans was angry and uncooperative when Woodward and his partner tried to ask him some questions because they started to foil his plans and said he would write a report on them and publish it. After a lot of digging they realized that this had been planned for years and once they got enough sources for their newest article they printed it, however their paper had received a lot of backlash as someone gave them some false information. One of the lawyers gave them false information, said they could publish it and put his name in there to sabotage him. Bob Woodward went to go meet with a friend and found out his life could be in danger along with his partner and editor. Then the movie ends with multiple newspapers titles being shown and Nixon being impeached. The movie was weird and you had to think a lot to realize what was going on for some parts or you had to wait for it to come to

Although Peltier was found guilty for the death of the two agents, the argument of the documentary is compelling because the evidence proving Peltier guilty was either fabricated or tampered with by the FBI which gave the trial an unfair, biased outcome. The documentary does a good job raising questions about the FBI’s prosecution of Peltier and what had happened on the day of June 26th, 1975. On this day, two FBI agents by the names of Jack Coler and Ron Williams were said to be following behind the vehicle driven by a suspect of a stolen pair of cowboy boots. The agents followed this red pick-up truck onto the hostile Pine Ridge Reservation, Jumping Bull Ranch, where the shootout began when several Indians identified the agents in an unidentified vehicle.…

Watergate, an office complex located near the Potomac in Washington never seemed to serve as such an important place as it did on the evening of June 17. 1972. On that evening a burglary took place that not only would shape the rest of current President Nixon’s term in office, but would also shape how the American people see their President, and how the American people sees their government. Nevertheless, the story of the robbery came to Woodward on a Saturday, quite confused by the location of the robbery because two years earlier the building had been a place where thousands on Anit-Nixon Protesters shouted slurs to the Republican party that had been in the Watergate complex (APM 14) Quickly following a few phone calls Woodward realized that…

The fact that Bernstein and Woodward had the freedom of press to discuss their suspicions and eventually reveal the truth about President Nixon is very signifcantt. This movie shows how the freedom of press is a huge check on not only the American government, but all Americans. If the press was restricted in America, which Tocqueville says, “the censorship of the press is absolutely absurd”, then corruptness of the government, businesses, universities, would never be exposed (Tocqueville 149).…

All President’s Men and Spotlight are films about two important scandals of corruption that affected two powerful American institutions: the government and the Catholic church. However, both films instead of focusing on the scandals themselves, they narrate it from the perspective of the journalists who investigate both cases. As Renée Loth says in one of her articles “both films are talky, true-life procedurals about the grinding, essential work of investigative journalism”. They are about the process of news gathering to expose the corruption of those institutions. All President’s Men (1976) is a film directed by Alan J. Pakula that narrates how two reporters of the Washington Post broke the Watergate scandal, the biggest political case…
