Brief Summary Of The Book 'New Kid'

You don't have to like everyone, but you don't have to be a jerk about it either. New Kid, a graphic novel by Jerry Craft, is about seventh grader, Jordan Banks. Jordan loves drawing and wants to go to art school. But, Jordan ends up getting sent to a private school, Riverdale Academy Day School. Jordan’s school has hardly any diversity at all, and he is one of the few kids of color. Throughout the year Jordan meets another new kid, his name is Drew, Jordan and Drew end up becoming best friends. Try new things, give opportunities a chance, this is an important thing shown throughout the book.

Jordan gives his new school a chance. Jordan is getting a chance to go to a good school, but is upset that he’s going, Jordan is also annoyed that he’s not going to the school that he wants to go to. His mother states on page 2, “This is one of the best schools in the entire state! It looks like Harvard or something.” Jordan decides to give the school a chance and take the opportunity, even though he doesn't want to go to this school. Jordan gave the school a chance and ended up liking it, even if it's not the school he wanted to go to.

Jordan's teacher surprised Jordan with his art on the yearbook cover, Jordan is surprised.
