Robert Jones was born in Caudle Green, Gloustershire, England on July 9, 1829. He was the only boy in a family of seven sisters.
In 1840, he was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1852 he married Harriet Tipper and had four children, one dying as a toddler. After 13 short years, Harriet died a few weeks before Thanksgiving in 1865. Five months later, he left for America with his three young children ranging in age from 12 to 8. The crossed the plains with the William Henry Chipman Company and arrived in Utah September of 1866.
The Jones family moved to Henefer where Robert lived the rest of his life. His journal records, “On December, 2, 1866 I was married to Miriam Ann Richins, daughter
