People say that McFarkel McDoo was quite odd and kind of mysterious growing up. He was a normal child until he hit the age of nine. One day, he wanted to play baseball outside with a few of his friends but it was pouring rain. His mother told him that he could not go because it was lightning outside but, he refused to listen, and she was not a woman of conflict, so she reluctantly let him go. When it was his turn to bat McFarkel was so excited! He had been working on his form with his father all week. He slowly stepped up to the plate and positioned his feet, as he pulled back his bat to go for the swing, BOOM! He had been struck, the other boys went into panick while running to his mothers house. When they reached his mother and told her the news she …show more content…
McFarkel was still laying in the same position on the ground, and his mothers heart broke. She blamed herself for the incident, she knew that she shouldn't have let him go. Soon after the other children and Mrs.McDoo arrived at the field, the paramedics did too. They rushed McFarkel to the E.R and almost automatically applied the defibrillator to his chest. Once he was somewhat conscious the hospitals top neurologist ran some tests on McFarkel to insure that there was no brain damage. The tests took a few hours and the results were astonishing. Fortunately he did not have any brain damage, but his brain surely did go berserk. The neurologist informed McFarkel and his mother that every single cell in his brain was now at his disposal. He was now a freak of nature, and a great asset to our world, but still a freak of nature. The next day a few people came to visit McFarkel in the hospital. Some were friends and family, but others were from the government. They talked to Mrs.McDoo about McFarkel coming to work and learn with some of the top scientist in the world. McFarkel had always wanted to be a scientist, but he knew that is not why they invited

Compare/Contrast Essay Christopher McCandless had a story that has now been shared with more people than what he would’ve imagined! Along with McCandless’s story having an impact on many, Adam Shepard’s story has also made an impact and has proved those who thought the American Dream was unattainable wrong. Though both of these individuals are unique in their own ways, McCandless’s story was more admirable and impactful. Adam Shepard was an educated young man who wanted to prove Barbara Ehrenreich wrong for her claiming that the American Dream was unattainable now in days.…

One of the main contributing factors to Chris’ odyssey into the wilderness, was the work of authors such as Jack London and Henry David Thoreau who wrote extensively about one’s connection with nature and valuing the simplicity in life. Chris became “enthralled by these tales, however, […] he seemed to forget they were works of fiction”(44). Jack London, the author he admired the most, “spent a single winter in the North” and died by his own hand in California (44). Though Chris read the works of many authors, he is also aware that these virtually perfect writers did not embody behavior that Chris would deem acceptable. Nevertheless, he continues to imitate their action.…

The most heartbreaking instance, for me personally, of how profound the Southie pride had indurated MacDonald to headship and cruelty, was his lack of being able to cry over losing his brother, Frankie. He had admired him and Frankie had been a positive male figure in MacDonald’s’ life. He died is a very meaningless way and it was heartbreaking that such a strong and compelling person was killed in such a degrading way. When Frankie was killed, it would have been understandable, logical and realistic for MacDonald to become emotional and shed a tear, but the cultural press of denial forced the emotions to become suppressed.…

For Example, Leo Tolstoy states “Life is a place of service, and in that service one has to suffer a great deal that is hard to bear, but more often to experience a great deal of joy.” (Leo). Leo is stating that in life you have to suffer a great deal, the suffering leads to a great deal of happiness in life. Chris viewed this as an inspiration, because he had suffered throughout his journey, even though he had a lot of obstacles he did not quit until he finally met his initial point, it is what made him happy. Leo also inspired Chris in many different ways, in which Chris showed in the movie Into the Wild.…

Would you ever just pack up all of your belongings and leave your family, friends, job etc like Christopher McCandless did? I do not think so. Chris was born February 12, 1968 in El Segundo, Ca. He was brought into a “special family” I’d say, Chris’s father had two wives and two different families that only lived 20 minutes away from each other. His father was an abusive man toward his wife, and Chris’s mother and his father would make him and his sister Carine McCandless watch while he would beat his wife.…

Chris McCandless is very different from any other person I have ever learned about. Through the years he has been accused of being a loner, a nutcase, and a careless boy. Now that I have read the story, in my opinion, Chris McCandless was an opportunist. Chris wanted to find happiness in life so he left everything he knew behind him, he wasn’t scared of anything life had to offer. From a young age Chris just wanted his own identity.…

After viewing the short film “Our time is up” by Rob Pearlstein, I was able to place the five components of the plot structure diagram as presented in theatre class. The five plot structure is, exposition, inciting event, raising event, climax, and falling action. The exposition is the beginning of the plot, it sets the foundational background of the main character or the story. At the opening of the story, you see a time clock set, an immaculate environment where everything is not just clean but ordered.…

Chris McCandless as a person was not crazy in his cognition or lifestyle, however, his decision making at times was somewhat incompetent, especially during his time in the wild. After his college graduation, Chris decided to live a vagabond-like lifestyle throughout the country. He did not tell his parents of his plans, and embarked on his journey with the end goal of journeying Alaska. In the wilderness, he was seeking isolation from his family, a sense of self-identity, and the answer to his desire for adventure. By analyzing Chris’s background and his upbringing, we can determine that he was not a crazy person.…
