There is an idea of fatal doom, in which the only good way to die would be through fighting and this is the only way Beowulf was willing to die. He persisted on with the sword that was not as much avail to him because his thanes abandoned him for dead when they realized it was a losing battle. A great warrior does not give up that easily which is why violence is heavily mentioned in this fight to show that if one was going to do down, they both would because they were both fighting till death.Though this is one battle he cannot fight on his own and needs the help of the only trusty companion, Wiglaf. Indeed with the team work they were able to strike "a little lower/...at the evil beast and his blade drove home" putting out the fire in the beast and than Wiglaf went back to finish off the job by stabbing the beast until it was no more (ln 1620-1623), Beowulf did not come out of the battle clean, netherless, he comes out bitten in the neck by the dragon. Covered in blood, he is seen as heroic and yet being on his deathbed, this just helps one last time prove that Beowulf is the mightiest warrior the kingdom has ever
