Brief Summary And Documentary Analysis

The second point I found to be very interesting is that Beth was able to change her life around. Personally, after watching the first half of the documentary, I would have expected Beth to be incarcerated at a young age. Her demeanor and lack of empathy towards others while she was around them was a key indication she lacked basic attachment. She was eventually diagnosed with a severe case of reactive attachment disorder, which is caused by severe emotional or physical abuse. The disorder prevented Beth from being able to connect with others. Having Beth relive the childhood she never experienced was key in correcting her behavior. Today, Beth is a healthy and successful young woman. She is a registered nurse in Flagstaff, Arizona, author of

    The Diligent Summary

The Diligent was written by Robert Harms and discusses the fifteen-month voyage of the Diligent to Martinique, including the world of the Atlantic slave trade. In his book, Harms uses the recently “discovered” journal of First Lieutenant Robert Durand. The author of the book makes references to Durand’s journal as well as the overall Atlantic slave trade. The Diligent can be viewed as an accurate representation of what the Atlantic slave trade was like during the eighteenth century right down to the business of the slave trade, the voyage itself, and the middle passage. Most ships that European slave traders used on their voyages to go into Africa were owned by merchants similar to the Billy brothers.…

The empathy and short stories have helped me look at the world in a differently in many ways. Such as the the short film we watched called “ Under the Surface”. This film helped me realize that everybody has something going on that you don’t know about. It also taught me that nobody is perfect and that you should never judge anybody because you don’t know what their life is like outside of school. It was a film that had pictures of people at school and what is going on outside in their life.…

I chose to watch the video 56 Up. What I found interesting was how each kid turned out. Some did exactly what they said they would when they were 7 and others did something completely different. The one I found most interesting was Symon. He grew up in a Children’s Home funded by charity.…

This relates to modern day because in certain areas the police are viewed as bad, what makes police bad can be a variety of different reasons. Though in the book they showed how police are bad when when the policemen came pounding on the door every girl went into hiding because she was terrified of them. The girls most likely went into hiding in fear of police brutality or being shamed/embarrassed in public since this seems to be what police do in the story.…

Also makes a very good point when she discusses how the others from Hati were living, she went into detail and gave me a sad picture of how they were living and being treated. I have to agree here becuause living basically piled up not being aple to go outside, or anywhere for that matter and not having the freedom would make anyone feel that they are in prison. And it's sad to see that the kids were practically begging to be able to go outside and play like the dream of any kid but the parents had to say no,, so they kids suffered a great deal to. I feel as if they are the kids who didnt have a child hood and were forced to grow up fast and grow up in a world full of dictator…

Watching the documentary Through Deaf Eyes was extremely informative. I was able to experience a side of deaf culture that I did not really know existed. It was incredible to see how far the deaf culture has come and learn where it came from. The documentary showed me just how cruel society could be when you are not seen as “normal”. The deaf community just wanted to be understood and treated with respect.…

I think it was very courageous of Susan Hamovitch to make a documentary of her family’s most painful, protective secret at that time. In the early 90’s, when people were judged, criticized, made fun of, and in some cases even punished for what Susan tried to reveal to the world, was very daring. It must have been not easy for Susan, nor for her family, to reveal their family’s secret to the world as the mother said to Susan when she told her her intention of making a documentary of their family secret “well, you’ve certainly dropped a bombshell.” It was a bombshell for the family because of what they kept secret of their whole life was about to be revealed to the world. The secret of the family was Alan, who never developed the ability to speak as his…

After watching the documentary Paycheck to Paycheck, I was left with a lot of uncertainty about people living in poverty. It is truly devastating how can single mothers survive with having such low income. It makes me extremely mad the fact that there is no more help for someone in this kind of situation who really needs a hand. It is truly amazing to see how Katrina manages to raise her three children by herself making that little amount of salary. Sincerely my heart was breaking watching this because I can totally relate to her story.…

What are the strengths/weaknesses of the author’s arguments? The author’s greatest strength in my opinion is how he used the cases of David and Marie and other child abuse and neglect cases to assist his arguments. He broke down the cases so they were more tangible for the reader to understand and gave valid reasons why there are problems with family preservations. However, the only issue I did find with the book itself was how it was laid out.…
