In Macbeth, ambition causes Macbeth to murder his loved ones, like King Duncan. “For mine own good, all causes shall give way. I am in blood stepp'd in so far that, should I wade no more. Returning were as tedious as go o'er.” (Macbeth, Act II Scene IV) This quote is before Macbeth murders Duncan, and he is at a point where he will do anything to help himself, even if it’s immoral. In the end Macbeth’s ambition leads to his downfall. In the film The Talented Mr. Ripley, Tom is also very ambitious, and all his ambition leads him across the globe, where he finds himself in horrible circumstances. Tom was very ambitious to make a better life for himself, and he didn’t seem to care if his actions had consequences. He kills Dickie, Freddie and Peter because he believes each time it is the best thing to do to help himself. Ultimately, both Macbeth and Tom are both very ambitious to make a better life for themselves, but they involve themselves corrupt things which in the end damages and destroys their
