Brief Character Analysis: Mrs. Flowers

Decent Essays
Mrs. Flowers’ actions are like a lifeline to a silent child because Mrs. Flowers was a kind person to Marguerite. In page 230, it states that Marguerite said “ All I cared about was that she made tea cookies for me and read to me from her favorite book. It was enough to prove that she liked me.” This explains that Marguerite was liked by Mrs. Flowers and that it felt nice to Marguerite because she usually felt like nobody wanted her.

An example of this is portrayed when Lily is about to leave T Ray and her home, “I needed a solid plan, but I didn’t have the luxury of sitting down to think one up” (41). Without a reliable plan or thinking about the consequences, Lily decides to quickly run away before her abusive father returns, which reveals her impatient personality. For example, the author includes certain phrases such as “but I didn’t have the luxury of sitting down to think one up” to illustrate Lily’s impatient mindset and her eagerness to leave her home without wasting even a second.…

Susan Glaspell is an American Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright who composed the play “Trifles” in 1916. The play was centered around the death of Mr. Wright who was strangled to death with a rope in his farmhouse. As Mr. Hale, Mr. Peters, and the county attorney seek to find evidence to convict Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters utilize what the men refer to as “trifles” to conduct an investigation while packing necessities to keep Mrs. Wright company while she is in jail. From my interpretation, “Trifles” portrays how women and men utilize their brains in different ways. Men were portrayed as blocking out unrelated information and distractions that could potentially lead to an undiscovered motive to solving the crime.…
