Maya Angelou was Born on April 04,1928 in St Louis, Mo. By the timed she turned 3years old her parents divorced and she and her brother went to live with their grandmother in Stamps, Arkansas. Angelou real name is not Maya her name is Marguerite Annie Johnson she received the nickname Maya from her Brother Bailey Johnson Jr. Maya and her brother is very close that when she was raped at the age of 7years old by her mother boyfriend she felt like the only person she can tell was her brother. But a couple days later the attacker ended up dead. Maya thought her words killed him so she stops speaking for 5/half years. When she started back speaking she and her brother joined her mother and San Francisco.
Maya won a scholarship to study dance and drama. Maya then quit high school at the age of 16 to become San Francisco first African American Streetcar conductor. She wrote and her autobiography “I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS’’ that became pregnant after having sex with a boy to prove she wasn’t a lesbian. Johnson is her only child. 1952 Maya got married to Greek Sailor Enistasious Tosh Angelou.
Maya traded in her waitress uniform for a microphone she became a singer taking the name Maya Angelou. The marriage didn’t last but her career expanded leading her a role and the stage production Porgy and Bess recording in 1957 the album Clips Old Lady. Even though Maya Always proceeded and music she started to look forward to her writing a little more. She moved to Harlem and joined the Harlem writing skills.
