Maya won a scholarship to study dance and drama. Maya then quit high school at the age of 16 to become San Francisco first African American Streetcar conductor. The 17year old Angelou gave birth to her son Clyde Guy Johnson and supported him while working as a waitress and a cook. She wrote and her autobiography “I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS’’ that became pregnant after having sex with a boy to prove she wasn’t a lesbian. Johnson is her only child. 1952 Maya got married to Greek Sailor Enistasious Tosh Angelou.
Maya traded in her waitress uniform for a microphone she became a singer taking the name Maya Angelou. The marriage didn’t last but her career expanded leading her a role and the stage production Porgy and Bess recording in 1957 the album Clips Old Lady. Even though Maya Always proceeded and music she started to look forward to her writing a little more. She moved to Harlem and joined the Harlem writing skills.
