Employer of Choice.
I contribute to Bridgeport Hospital "employer of choice" by warm and friendly behavior toward our patients. I offer my help to any client or a family member looking for information or direction. I precept new employees, surgical technology students, residents, nursing students PA students and others in friendly, helpful, and informative manner. I also contribute to Bridgeport Hospital goal to become the "employer of choice" by creating carrying, friendly and helpful environment for the members of our team, as well as members of other services at our hospital. I strive to stay informed and improve my knowledge and my skills through continuing education in my field of practice. I am CNOR certified and maintain my certificate by fulfilling educational requirements. I maintain my level of practice as Professional Nurse II. I am a member of AORN, a professional organization, and stay current in my field by reading articles pertaining to this field. I pursue my RN to BSN degree at Fairfield University. This allows me the opportunity to broaden my knowledge and understanding of the many roles and responsibilities nurses are faced with, as well as greater understanding of the process of health care delivery, and the health care delivery system in general. It allows me a greater perspective of the complexity of patient care, and patient safety. I believe that only through the incorporation of evidence-based practice into my work, I can serve our patients better, maximize their healing process and thus improve their outcomes, as well as increase effectiveness of cost involved in patient care. Also, I am a member of unit based Quality Assurance Committee, as well as hospital-based Save our Skin Committee. I do not open unnecessary supplies, or medications until I confirm with the surgeon that he/ she will use it. I do nor open instrument sets until I am sure that they will be used( sterilization of instruments as well as wrapping material could be costly). I am conscious about charges for borrowed instrumentation trays, and offer our own if possible ( borrowed from MOR). If not, I do not open borrowed trays until sure that it will be necessary. My latest incervice pertaining to "Time Out" in the operating room , brought awareness to the Surgease and MOR staff about the importance of the introduction of the surgical team before surgery. Knowing your team members does not only contributes to greater openness, allows members to voice concerns and questions, which contributes to patient safety, but it also saves the hospital money. Performing staff introduction during "time out" adds $ 355.463.05 in Medicare reimbursement, money which were lost before incorporating
