Bridgeport High School: A Case Study

A popular issue at the Bridgeport High School is the dispute between the Bridgeport Independent School District Administration and Bridgeport’s class of 2017 over whether or not senior trips should be allowed. While the senior class of 2017 strongly presses for senior trips at the end of the school year, the administrators refuse to give permission. The Bridgeport Independent School District Administration should allow the class of 2017 to participate in senior trips because the outcome will be beneficial to the students and the school. According to the parents in charge of Project Graduation, the senior class of 2017 is not allowed to have senior trips because a girl in the class of 2016 got hurt while partaking in an activity at one of the senior trips. This made the school board decide that the senior trips are too much of a liability issue in that the school may get sued if a student gets hurt while on a senior trip. While this can be true, the student who got hurt last year only got hurt because she chose to take actions advised against her. The student got hurt while going down a large blow-up slide. Before the students were allowed to get on the slide, they were told to keep their legs crossed all the way down it. However, the student decided to uncross her legs, …show more content…
By the time students reach their senior year of high school, they often feel no motivation to continue doing schoolwork. A huge reason students continue to progress through their senior year is because they know they will be rewarded at the end of the school year for all of their hard work. This reward is the senior trips. Without the senior trips acting as an incentive to push through senior year, the students no longer feel the motivation to do their schoolwork. Therefore, taking away the senior trips at the end of the school year is hurting the students more than it is
