Bridge To Terabithia By Katherine Paterson

I jumped out of my bed and looked at the clock. It was only half past midnight? I went to the bathroom and came back to get some more sleep before it was time to wake up for school. I was nearly out cold when I had remembered something that once again made me jump out of bed: I completely forgot that I had the largest English project due that was worth more than half of my final grade for the first quarter of my seventh-grade year. I scrambled around my room until I found my bookbag and grabbed my binder. The rubric stated that I must have a presentation representing the book “Bridge to Terabithia” by Katherine Paterson and I also needed a two-page paper explaining my thoughts on the novel. Luckily, my mother had purchased a bundle of poster …show more content…
Trying to be as creative as I could be in such a small amount of time, I used my stencils to spell out “Bridge to Terabithia.” Then, I began to color in the letters with bold and exciting colors that would jump off the page to my classmates when I presented the board. I then went onto my computer to print off a picture of a bridge to use as an example for my illustration. The novel is based on two students who become friends after the new girl, Leslie, moves next door to the main character, Jess. The two created a world of fantasy in the woods near their house and they ended up visiting their new world every day after school. One day, Jess hadn’t gone to their fantasy world called Terabithia, but Leslie, however, went without Jess. There was a creek in Terabithia, which ended up being the cause of death to Leslie, as she drowned while trying to cross it. Jess struggled to keep Terabithia alive afterwards, but eventually he created a bridge and became the new “leader” of the fantasy world he once shared with his best friend. For my representation, I decided to draw a bridge that was brown and appeared rather aged. Then, I added a yellow glow around the bridge, which was to symbolize that Jess created a new, refreshed fantasy world for himself, but the glow was his sign of Leslie who would live on forever in Jess’ fantasy land. For my main ideas, I decided to type them …show more content…
I, once again, was on my computer and began typing out the essay. I made sure to include all important details as well as a list of the main characters. My project seemed to be coming together more greatly than I thought due to my procrastination. Once again, I checked the clock and it was now six in the morning. I had finally completely my project within a decent amount of time and just enough time to get myself ready for school. I put my project somewhere where it couldn’t get damaged, got my clothes ready for school and made my way to the shower. When I was finished, my mom was in the kitchen enjoying her morning routine of drinking coffee. Before I could begin telling her of how great my project turned out to be, she informed me that my school district had closed for the day due to terrible weather conditions outdoors. In disbelief, I peeked out of the kitchen window to see a white blanket covering my entire backyard. All I could think was how irritated I was due to spending all of the early morning hours forcing myself to stay awake in order to complete this project. All in all, I believe that I learned my lesson of procrastinating on an important project since I could be spending my snow day with friends instead of catching up on much needed

In the article written by Carolyn Raphaely, she tells the story of Sabelo Ngani and how he spent the last eleven years of his life doing time in prison for a crime that he did not commit. In 2007 Sabelo Ngani was found guilty for the gang-rape of 24-year-old Mpho Suping despite the lack of solid evidence. The security guard responsible for calling the authorities that night made a statement, but it was never reviewed in the case, nor was he asked to testify. Three of the accused, not including Ngani, were caught in the act and they all stated that Sabelo Ngani was not present at the rape. Even though DNA tests from the incident were inconclusive, Sabelo Ngani was found guilty.…

Punctuation in Natasha Trethewey’s “Myth” What’s the difference between a period and comma? When reading aloud, one might take a breath at a comma, and take a slightly longer pause at a period. But really, who cares about distinguishing a small speck and a slightly elongated speck on a page? In Natasha Trethewey’s “Myth,” however, you’ll find that the almost exhaustive list of substitutions she makes in the second part of the poem makes it read completely differently than the first – which is surprising, as the poem, in essence, is structured as a palindrome!…

Between the World and Me is a phenomenally written work of literature. A memoir of the life of black Ta’nashi Coates in the form of letter to his fifteen-year-old son. Readers follow him as he goes from a boy in the ghettos of Baltimore, to what he refers to as the Mecca that is Howard, to a man raising his son in a white America. Coates makes good points, but as I continued to read it seems that he contradicts these point. At first glance this book seems like a father’s attempt soothe his son’s uneasiness about his position as a young black man in America, during a time when many young black men are being killed.…

I never considered myself to be an excellent writer but still thought I wrote well enough to get my point across without confusing the reader too much. However, any confidence that I had in my writing skills was lost for a short time when I had to write my first timed essay in school. Luckily, the timed essay assignment also helped me see that I needed to work on my writing and, as a result, actually turned out to be a more positive experience rather than a negative one. It was just another regular school day that was near its end, and I had one more class to go to before everyone was released to go home.…

Your analysis of Andrew Wyeth's Christina's World, regarding scale and proportion was interesting to read. According to our class reading this week, Professor Tessier explained that “proportion is the size of a part in relation to the whole” (Tessier, 2017). You mentioned proportion in the painting regarding Christina being the largest object in the art work. My observation regarding proportion in this artwork was the vast size of the field in relation to the distance between Christina and the small farmhouse. My interpretation of the vast field was that, Andrew Wyeth wanted to create a sense of isolation between Christina and the farmhouse.…

In the article “Different but (Probably) Equal”, Olivia Judson makes her claim stating male and females are inherently different due to different factors such as genetics and brain chemistry, but this does not necessarily make one sex better than another. The author uses mainly logos, or logical facts, such as examples of differences in appearance or behavior throughout the animal kingdom to prove her point successfully. Judson backs up her claim with scientific evidence and ultimately proves her point efficiently and effectively. Judson opens her article with a hypothesis: male and female humans are virtually indistinguishable when it comes to behavior and intellectual prowess.…
