On the comfortable seat of the boat, I could see the thousands of barn swallows in the distance. I could hear the roar of the 1400 horsepower engine of the boat, the feeling of the humid air around the docks, and the scent of the hotdog stand up on the sidewalk. I was on the boat with my mom, dad, aunt, brother and sister, and my cousins. It was in the heat of the summer at the hottest part of the day in the Wisconsin Dells. The driver was spinning the boat around and doing what he called a, “power stop", and water was splashing in. He said he had a surprise stop for us. A little while later we go to the docks for our stop, and I was so excited.
As we parked the boat on the docks, I was looking into the dark, narrow, canyon like rock formation. Everyone got off the boat and stood

After the guides little speech of rules, we all made our way off the deck and onto the damp bridge that lead over and into the gorge. I was so excited yet also trembling for what might be coming. I was now a little scared for what may be coming out of the canyon of death.
As I walked up to it, I could feel the humid air rushing out of the narrow canyon. The breeze rushing out gave me the chills because I was soaking wet. The bridge pathway was very narrow. I walked slowly and carefully as the bridge creaked and made strange noises. As I looked below me under the bridge, there were streams running twenty feet below. There were also whirlpools that looked like they could form a tsunami at any second. I looked above me, there were oak and maple trees forming a canopy, which blocked out all of the sunlight. As I looked around, I couldn't stop thinking of how beautiful the scene was. As amazing as the sights were, I couldn't wait to see what was in the opening ahead
There was a large cement platform over the small stream of water that had some interesting things on it. The exit of the gorge was wide open and had a little more sunlight. As

“Will you look at us just screaming along” I paused considering the strong current pushing us. “Wanna wind it up a notch and see how fast we can get this baby going?” Captain sat per minute and then reached for the throttle. We both watched the speed pick up slowly but surely, as we cruised along at full throttle for a few minutes.…

Chapter Fourteen A Girl Named Mischief Not wanting to make any noise that might draw the men’s attention I silently backed out from between the rocks. I could either wait for Bane and his legion of henchmen to find someone small enough to slip between the stones, or hurry out the cave and hope they won’t waiting for me outside. I knew which option I preferred. I’d had enough of the dark, so I gathered my nerve and padded through the muddled shafts.…

Duke Scandal It was a normal day on the Duke campus, a beautiful day to be exact. It was sunny, a little bit windy, and smelt like fresh cut grass. Five friends were on their way to their first class of the day, which was the worst class of the day too. They always just pushed through it though because it was senior year and they just needed to get it over with so they could start their lives. As they walked into class they noticed a sign with a pile of papers beside it.…

It was too goddamn hot in this room, I thought to myself. Too goddamn hot to sleep and too goddamn hot to be productive. I looked at the old alarm clock on my nightstand that I had owned since I was born and sent a curse or two to the ceiling. It was 4 am and once again I found myself aggressively not sleeping. It had been like this all summer.…

""Jump?" I jumped and started falling towards the Surface. I'd only been falling for a few seconds before Karane zoomed by me, feet first and screaming. I groaned; I'd forgotten to instruct her on how to do this. "Karane, open your Sailcloth," I yelled. Karane fumbled with her Sailcloth and opened it, floating lazily on the winds.…

Chapter Thirteen A Girl Named Mischief My eyes darted around the dark, my heart racing. Were Bane and his henchmen on the other side searching for someone small enough to slip between the stones. An ice-cold cable wrapped its way down my spine. Or were they waiting for me outside, sitting on the edge of the cliff casting pebbles into the canyon?…

The energy in Puri's air was very holy, and there I was given the proof of positive thinking that can be beneficial only when doubt doesn't exist and the moment is lived in an innocent state of mind, while wishing truly for the best for others without any return expectations. In India, I was surrounded by so much poverty, at this point it seems appropriate to mention that even though I was better off than the local multitude, I traveled for fourteen months outside my native country, Italy, with the meager sum of one hundred and twenty dollars. Despite the fact that the living cost in those years was considerably lower in comparison to the present, what I had in hand wasn’t much to brag about. I was fully charged with self-confidence.…

Growing up we are all told that lying is bad, no parent has ever taught a child that lying was something they should be doing. Personally my parents had always been very strict on lying and if I had been caught in the act it was game over. From when I was able to comprehend what lying was and even today I try and be as honest as I can. However this day in particular, I made an exception that I would come to regret. It was a blazing hot May day in the northwest suburb of Chicago, otherwise known as Barrington, Illinois.…

The worst part was probably the dreams afterwards, imagining the disaster over and over again, ending in so many agonizing outcomes. I would always wake in shivers, my face wet with tears and a stabbing pain running through my leg Shari had packed the car earlier that day so all that needed to happen was to pick me up and head off up to the blowholes. We had planned to stay at the coast for the night and return home to hot showers and movies in bed the next day, a tradition we upheld after every coast trip, so why would the lack of parents make any difference? We walked out onto the cliff carefully as to avoid the many sharp crevices carved out by many years of ever changing tides. Venturing cautiously to the edge I peered over to look at…

I heard the flowing water before I saw it, smelled the freshness of the river. When I finally saw it, I took a moment to absorb the beauty. It was twenty meters wide, slow-moving water with a peaceful, small waterfall off to one side, and mossy stones sticking up from the river. It looked like something you would see in a postcard, a picture taken for an Alaskan tourism advertisement. I took a single step into the water.…
