Throughout this summer I read the book “Dreaming in Chinese: Mandarin Lessons in Life, Love, and Language” by Deborah Fallows. It is a memoir about the discoveries Deborah Fallows made through her journey of living in China for three years. She wrote about the good and bad but also the different things she learned in the process. For example she wrote about her troubles when she first started getting introduced to the different tones, but then she learned that although the tones may sound the same, the character is what changes the different tone to the different meaning. Her example was that shī (狮), shí (十), shǐ (使), shì (是) sound the same but mean lion, ten, to make, and to be because the different characters change the meaning.…

My father, who was once Agnostic and is now Catholic stated, “A virgin male will be shy, innocent, and try to impress whereas a virgin female is pure, powerful, and reflects on her self-being. However, if this is not the case, then it doesn’t matter if someone is a virgin or not as long as that they are respected and loved.” My mother was very stern on the idea that “age matters when it comes to sex” and that a virgin male is “undesirable because of his inexperience”. I have observed that there is a universal and general trend between all age groups that the idea that virginity in women is desirable and without it they lose a sense of purity or sanctity.
