We Are More Alike than You Think! “The king’s daughter shall in her fifteenth year, be wounded by a spindle, and fall down dead” (Jacob and Wilhelm). “Briar Rose” is a classic fairy tale in which a princess is under a spell for a hundred years! I can relate to Briar Rose, because I feel that we have many things in common. “The queen had a little girl, so very beautiful that the king could not cease looking on it for joy, and said he would hold a great feast and make merry, and show the child to all the land”(Jacob and Wilhelm). I can relate to this statement because I was my parents first born. I remember having parties ever since I was small. My father loved dressing me up as a princess and getting me just about anything I wanted on my birthday. To my father I am his pride and joy. If my life was a fairy tale I would definitely be Briar Rose! My parents have always loved showing me off to friends and relatives. A day does not go by that my father tells me how beautiful I am and, therefore; can relate to how Briar Rose parents are. …show more content…
Due to the spell the fairy godmother had put upon the king’s daughter her tried to do everything possible to save her. At this point Briar Rose is overprotected by his father. I can relate to that as well because my father has always been the same way with me. He tells me when he doesn’t like a certain friendship and prohibits me from doing anything that is harmful to me. I think that Briar Rose and I share a common factor, that being the way our parents are. Yes, I understand that they always want what is best for me, but at one point I have to make my own

Sexton uses simile to elaborate on the way this protectiveness of the King to his daughter may imply a physical desire for her. Sexton describes the extensive lengths that the King went to protect Briar Rose, which includes burning all the spindles and forcing the men of the castle to poison their tongues. Sexton writes, “Thus she dwelt in his odor. / Rank as honeysuckle.” Comparing honeysuckle to rank with a negative connotation emphasizes that this “sweet” type of protection may have been unwanted from Briar Rose herself.…

The Brother Grimm’s version of Cinderella has hidden meanings in the stories that teach us about how the story resembles or symbolize our society. The first symbol in the story that stood out to me the most is the stepsisters representing society 's cruelness and greed. The second symbol was the stepmother’s envy of Cinderella 's beauty, because Cinderella was more beautiful than her daughter 's. The stepmother thought that her daughter’s were not as beautiful as Cinderella and as a result she was envious of Cinderella, this represent a society dominated by envy and hate. The third symbol is the hazel tree that provided Cinderella with the wisdom and inspiration to overcome the abuse she was going through, this represents how society rewards…

Perrault version of Cinderella Vs the Grimm brothers’ version of Cinderella. “Fairy tale” is the term also used to describe something containing unusual happiness, like “fairy tale ending” a happing ending, or “fairy tale romance”, though not all fairy tales have a happy ending. According to Arthur Schlesinger, classical tales “tell children what they unconsciously know-that human nature is not innately good, that conflict is real, that life is harsh before it is, happy-and thereby reassure them about their own fears and their own sense of self” (229). Despite the fact that both Perrault and the Grimm brothers versions of Cinderella are fundamentally similar to each other, but the differences between them show two different moral universes.…

Growing up typically the only version of fairy tales recognized by most children is the “Disney Version”. Although popular, the Disney stories are not the only ones to exist; surprisingly many other authors retold their own versions of well known fairy tales. No matter who wrote the tale or which tale is being told, there usually exists a pattern of similar themes throughout each story. The tale of Beauty and the Beast by Beaumont, exhibits many of the common themes found in literature, such as having a male dominant character, an innocent maiden and magical elements present throughout the story. These common elements can be found in almost every story from the Grimm Brother’s version to Walt Disney’s version.…
