Brian's Hunt
The reason I choose this Brian’s Hunt book is because of the illustration and the cover is relatively interesting to me. The book is authored by Gary Paulsen and published in 2003. As the main character, Brian Robeson had a plane accident when he was 14 years old. After two years, he doesn’t want to live in a busy city, but he wants to live in the wilderness of Canada, where it had so many trees and wild animals with an adventurous life.
At the age of 16, Brian wanted to live alone on the island. He loved to go fishing and hunting. The cave became his house, where he used to sleep. This is all he needed and it made him happy. It was a quiet place and not many people. When the winter came, he was rescued by the Cree’s family, so

I am so proud of Brian because he taught me how to be kinder and always ready to help people that we don't even need to know them very well. I really enjoyed reading this book, it makes me remember the first time when I came here to the United States; I loved this country. I want to live here so much because it is much better than my home country. I can do whatever I want and nobody cares. I recommend this book to my friends and they said, “This book is such as an awesome adventure story and it’s hard for me to stop reading because I want to know what is going to happen next.” While reading, I always asked myself what, when, which, where and why? So it helps me understand are more clearly as this vocabulary that I didn't know what whimpering is meant, so I need to translate to Vietnamese and then I can learn a new word. During reading the book I also used highlighters with different colors to highlight and take notes. I can’t remember every detail in the book, so if I forget any important details; I just have to open my notes out or check the highlighted information and then find the information I needed for my essay. I think note-taking is really helping in summarizing a

The book Bull Catcher was a terrific book, and I related to it in several ways. Neil Larsen is a catcher for his high school’s varsity team and everyone calls him Bull. Bull lives in Wisconsin with his grandfather, while his mother is living in LA. His mother wants him to forget about baseball and attend school in LA, but Bull knows what’s best for him and he thinks that his calling is baseball. Jeff and Billy are Bull’s friends and have been since elementary school.…

Mirta Ojio’s book Hunting Season, Immigration and Murder in an All-American Town is based on a true story of an immigrant’s murder that turned a small American town on Long Island village of Patchogue into a war zone for immigration rights. In this critical reflection paper, I will discuss and analyze three key issues or themes that were represented in the Hunting Season and elaborate how these concepts connect with those of Governing Immigration through Crime by Dowling and Inda. The first concept is that of the Membership Theory, a theory which “limits individual rights and privileges to the members of a social contract between the government and the people” (Dowling & Inda,2013). The Membership theory often marks out boundaries of who is an accepted member of society and who isn’t, which was demonstrated in Hunting Season when Marcelo Lucero traveled from Ecuador to Long Island.…

Was there ever a time you didn’t like to do something, but as you got older you started to love it more than you did as a child? When I was younger, I never liked to read, but now as I have gotten older, I read more and more different kinds of books and novels. My mother put my sister and me into a reading program in elementary school because our reading levels were lower than they should be. There were no criteria so we read books that were interesting to us, like the Given Tree by Shel Silverstein and Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White. When we finished reading them we would go around and talk about the book we read.…
