This transformation resulted in the creation of millions of cosmic entities such as stars and galaxies. As incredible as the creation of these celestial beings are, there is something more exciting that it created; us. Along with these collections of stars and dust, comes the planet Earth and its ability to create and foster life. In the book Journey of the Universe, the authors, Brian Thomas Swimme and Mary Eveln Tucker, tell the story of the universe 's creation of life and its struggle to maintain perfect equilibrium while humans destroying the natural cycle it has created. With the rise of humans, the process of not following "instinctual behavior"(87) was created. Humans began to experience new emotions and situations that life before them had never experienced. This change allowed for humans to evolve further than anything had before it. Humans began to use symbols to express their ideas and insights on new things which allowed for more interaction between other humans. Through these symbols and the interaction amongst other humans, people gained the ability to view things in a new way. Other animals are no longer seen as just animals, but can be seen as an important part of the environment or as a profit. The empathy of humans allows for them to become the central link with all life. It is up to humans not to find that perfect balance to create equilibrium with the …show more content…
Two billion years ago, the plants would create oxygen as a byproduct of photosynthesis and then certain cells would intake the oxygen through respiration. These species created a symbiosis on Earth for each other. Even predation has pushed forward the evolution of species so that they are better prepared to survive their predator or to catch their prey. Humans on the other hand, are pushing the boundary of survivability that many species are unable to keep up with. "Because of us, the ice caps are melting. Because of us, coral reefs the size of mountains are dying"(102). Humans are causing the destruction of habitats around the world, and in turn, are causing the extinction of thousands of species. Up to this point everything has a role to play. Now humanity is left without any true purpose on Earth. Instead, humanity has been tasked with the process of keep its actions from throwing the Earth out of equilibrium. Humanity is currently at a crossroad for the destiny of Earth. With global warming, deforestation, and loss of habitat leading the charge for man 's destructive charge, humanity is driving the Earth in a direction it hasn 't been before. With all of Earth 's previous creatures serving a positive role in the well being of the ecosystem, for the first time, humans are making things work. Either Earth 's destiny is wrong, or mankind is yet to make

This week, the reading selections were quite interesting. We have these two authors, Taylor and Epstein, who truly approach the environmental topic in separate ways. On one hand, we have Paul Taylor defending our environment all the way in the article “The Ethics of Respect for Nature”. In this article, Taylor insists that we switch our current perspectives, regarding the environment, to ones that further zoom in on the sake of nature. In fact, Taylor states that “once we reject the claim that humans are superior either in merit or in worth to other living things, we are ready to adopt the attitude of respect” (330).…

Over hundreds of years the human species has evolved and taken control of the lesser species, distancing ourselves from them as a result. The relation to humans also fails because being human we value other humans lives more than any other lifeform. This is because they are our own kind, people generally value the lives of their own family members over a stranger’s, humans valuing humans is just on a much larger scale. For example, if someone had a gun to the head of your mom and a complete stranger and unfortunately one had to die most people…

Human beings love to communicate with one another and share private matters with each other. Without interacting with one another, the existence of human beings would not have lasted this long. Animals are able to interact with each other, and are bound together mostly with their own kind of species. However, animals lack the skill of reason, morality and consciousness that human beings have, which makes us different from other living creatures. Moreover, human beings intend to communicate and interact with everyone around, but mostly the ones we love and share common interests with.…

611). Bekoff (2014) also mentions that caring is a rather important factor in the process. Hence, in order to understand how an animal may feel, humans must place themselves in the positions of these animals and develop perceptions of how animals/wildlife experience their lives and how important their habitat is for their survival. Considerably, this process makes it possible for humans to establish similarities between themselves and non-human animals to develop compassion and feel more inclined to advocate and fight for the restoration and conservation of the environment. However, the development of these characteristics towards the environment can be rather difficult when living in a chaotic…

Over the past century we have seen not only our population skyrocket, but also our technological capacity increase exponentially. My worldview, primarily eco-centric, is focused on the incredible potential of technology to create sustainable harmony between humanity and the earth. We have gotten to a point in our evolution where it will be impossible to revert to our pre-industrial state. Our resources are limited and should not be wasted, this traces back to the fundamental property of the universe: energy and matter cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be converted between forms. So much matter is wasted and converted into a state in which it is impossible to recover it, and instead of draining the earth we should be focusing on developing inexhaustible…

What does it mean to have a heart of change? Animals are much more similar to us than the scientific community believed for a long time, but today many in the scientific community believe that they experience, excitement and depression and the same emotions as human beings. They have a surprising level of intelligence, in that they can achieve sophisticated tool making tasks and posses qualities that the majority of people never imagined. It is so hard to realize that so many human beings are treating our fellow companion with no regards. In “ A Change of Heart about Animals” Jeremy Rifkin claims that all animals have similar qualities as human beings and that they deserve as much respect as us.…

One of the emerging values recognized by human beings is the concern for our environments and the living creatures that we share them with, but what would happen if human beings stopped caring for their planet and completely disregarded any other living creature outside of the human race? Expert biologist, Jeff Corwin, discusses this idea in his article “The Sixth Extinction,” published by the Los Angeles Times. He argues in his article that while there have been preventative programs put into place, human beings are actively destroying our planet and slowly killing off hundreds of species with every deforestation project, landfill, and black-market trade. For his article, Corwin uses real life experiences to strengthen his credibility. In addition to his easy-to-understand writing style, Corwin also pulls his audience into the root of his essay by providing shocking facts that give readers an insight as to what could happen if they continue to disregard their planet and the other living species that reside there.…

Our constant need to build and expand has put our presence in places where it doesn’t belong. When roads or dams are built, habitats are split up. When this occurs, animals get separated from their eggs or offspring and when a species is introduced to a new environment, they die off because the environment does not contain enough resources to withhold them. (Enzor, 2018) Also mentioned earlier, the emissions released to the ozone when trees are absent, harm it and contribute to global warming.…
