Brian Gallagher's Leadership Theories: Changing United Way

Brian Gallagher has many leadership theories according to his behavior in changing United Way and put it on the track again. Firstly, he raised some questions about the mission of United Way: was it to raise funds or to have an impact on communities? And he answered it as: we are concerned about changing people's lives; fundraising is the strategy to do so. He knew the problem and acts according to this. In that behavior he first saw that his work is to serve other people and consequently, he has servant leadership theory. Then he put a plan to fix this and come back on the track of the organization. He brought together local United Way leaders from across the country to discuss the plan. And the result is: about half of the leaders were agreed on the new plan. In that second behavior he obviously has contingency theories because this theory depends on three variables: leader-member relations, which summarize in the degree of trust between leader and members; cooperativeness; and friendliness between the leader and …show more content…
Thus, Brian Gallagher also has Legislative leadership theory because this kind of theory is a style that relies more upon persuasion, political currency, and shared interests to create the conditions for the right decisions to happen.

Ultimately, we can also see from his points of view and his statement that Gallagher has a charismatic leadership theory, because he advocating a vision, exhibiting confidence, use visioning and persuasive appeals to influence followers, rather than relying mainly on formal authority; and so on.
