Brent's School Picture Analysis

Brent’s school picture
The school picture included is from the year when the story takes place. Before Brent’s accident, he always wore black, as can be seen in the photo, because it was his favorite color (it reminded him of death; after the incident, Brent did not like black anymore, due to the way his skin looked when he saw himself in the mirror after he set himself on fire. In the picture, Brent is not completely smiling, just smirking, which he said he did often because of his depression.
Kilmer Middle School
This is where Brent went to school at the time of his accident. He wanted to set himself on fire because he was going to get expelled from Kilmer because of something he had done.
Gym locker room
Brent and his friends had been playing with matches in the gym locker room during school on a Friday. Brent decided to light the whole book of matches on fire, and then threw the burning matches into one of the lockers after he set them on

Brent’s goal at rehab was to be able to play one on one with Magic Johnson, but he never acheived his goal in time. duPont Hospital for Children
After leaving Children’s, Brent went to live at duPont for a few months. duPont was not as kid friendly as Children’s, but Brent still liked one of his nurses, Lori. Most of Brent’s physical rehab took place at duPont, where he bowled and played basketball to loosen up the scars over his shoulders, which were greatly hindering his movement.
Fall’s Church
Fall’s Church is where Brent lived. After staying at duPont for a couple of months, he was allowed to live back at home with his family, and attend Dominion Youth Services for outpatient therapy. At Dominion, Brent was put into a group of kids who were getting therapy to help their drug addictions; Brent did not particularly like these people. Brent did, however, like his psychologist, Michael Megor.
