One skill I used often than others was the strengths-based approach. I wanted Liz to feel like she took the right first step. I specifically told her that it was great to have her in session to make her feel empowered and assured that we will work together to find solutions (0:20). I also used this skill after explaining that we were a generalist practice and despite being unable to diagnose illness, I was still going to do my best that I can to help (0:57). I felt she expressed a feeling of guilt when she clarified that she did not want to be stigmatized, I was able to remind her that we will find solutions and that I was a reliable person.…

My first question was if Dr. Lauber could be a potential speaker and she said that she could not. Dr. Lauber’s responsibilities are to “listen, observe and identify her patients emotional, psychological or behavioral issue(s).” Her day-to-day tasks are to help identify her patients what is troubling her client, after she has identified the problem she develops a treatment plan. Dr. Lauber told me that “there’s pros and cons in every job/profession but if she told to make a list, it would be. Pros: I help my patients, I am my own boss” (she does her own private practice/self-employed).…

Key learning point 1. Initial assessment. The initial assessment is so important as it lays not only the foundations for a successful client/practitioner relationship but also the foundations for treatment and also establishes the understanding around the clients needs and your capabilities as a practitioner. This was also highlighted in PDP 1:1 as an area that needed development at the start of module 1. It is useful having the time to reflect and evaluate on areas of weaknesses and strengths as it provides a goal to work towards. One goal decided upon was communicating with patients with a more confident approach. In order to achieve this the student had to stop building barriers and develop interpersonal skills; this is one of the main factors identified by the Department Of…

I must ensure that the skills [communication, teamwork, active listening and organization skills] I have learned are well applied during my clinical placement. Effective communication is very important in the health care field. As a radiographer, maintaining a positive attitude towards others, explaining jargon words to patients and seeking help from health care professionals when necessary are some examples of effective communication skills (Crawford & Bonham, 2006). For example, during placement, I must try to remain professional, objective and optimistic when speaking to patients. I must ensure care, sympathy and empathy for patients.…

Mock Interview Reflection The mock interview was closely related to the topics covered in the readings and in class. Getting practice using the techniques we have been learning in real time, with a real person, made the content more concrete. I was conscious of employing solution focused techniques as much as possible in the short time we had to conduct the interview. While my performance produced mixed results, the practice was a good start to becoming an expert using the technique. Strengths and Effectiveness When reflecting on my performance, I was able to express to the client I was fully engaged in our conversation by intentionally implementing a variety of reflection strategies.…
