Brecht Food Inspectors Case

1. On 21 February 2017 Army Veterinary Food Inspectors (AVFIs) received a phone call from the DFAC manager Vinod concerning green spots found on the Tyson Chicken Breast Filets in various cases.

2. Army Veterinary Food Inspectors (AVFIs) performed a surveillance inspection on the Tyson Chicken Breast Filets lot number 2856WLD for the DFAC on Camp Buehring. Out of 125 cases total, approximately 60 cases were looking at and thru our surveillance inspection, 50% of each bag had the green spots on the chicken breast.

3. Army Veterinary Food Inspectors (AVFIs) pulled multiple samples from 2 different lots (2856WLD and 2856VAN) and conducted a Destructive Open Package Inspection to determine whether both lots contained the green spots. After performing the DOPI, Army Veterinary Food Inspectors determined that the Tyson Chicken Breast Filets lot number 2856VAN did not contain the green spots and were SAFE.

The items were inspected IAW AR 40-656. Upon completion of inspection, the Tyson Chicken Breast Filets with the Lot Number #2856WLD will be placed on Medical Hold until further notice or until we have further guidance from our Food Safety
