Welcome to the amazing world of parenthood! This is going to be some of the most awesome experiences of your whole life. These moments are going to be filled with love, cuddles, cuteness, puke, poop, ups, and downs. One of the most important things to remember is to provide your baby with lots of love and good nutrition. Nutrition is vitally important to your child's development. Poor nourishment can effect her overall health including her growth and cognitive abilities. I would personally recommend breast feeding which has the most benefits for your growing child and your personal health. I know this is not always possible for all mothers so if breastfeeding is not an option than from 0-3 months give your child only iron-fortified formula.

In the article “Breast milk and subsequent intelligence quotient in children born preterm” A. Lucas and R. Morley (1992) conducted a thorough experiment on the effects of mothers’ breast milk on premature newborns. As you have now seen, they found this to be true. Lucas and Morley found in an earlier study that when mothers chose to breast feed they were better developed. Both findings stand in favor that breast milk plays a crucial role in development. They also found biologically, “Human milk also contains numerous hormones and tropic factors (n15, n17) that might influence brain growth and nutrition.”…

when writing an argumentative essay, first the writer needs to gather all the information needed to start the essay. The writer needs a topic to begin with like for instance, why breastfeeding your newborn baby is more substantial than bottle feeding. With a topic as this, this would make a great argument because so many nursing moms and new moms would have a different opinion for each one. Let’s just say that this is the topic for the essay, the writer would need to have a reasoning to back up their argument. From the website webmd.com, the advantages of breastfeeding are: (1) the cost of powdered milk is much more expensive than breast milk, so therefore breast milk is free, (2) the infant will get more nutrients from their mother versus out of a can, (3) it may also contain some fatty acids that promote brain development, (4) it can also save the nursing mom time from having to get up in the middle of the night to prepare a bottle for the baby, and last but not least (5) the new mom could lose weight with breastfeeding, and so much more.…

Does exclusive breastfeeding in infants for the first 3 months increase cognitive development of the child from birth-age 12? The patient population is infants under 3 months of age, the intervention of interest is breastfeeding, the comparison of interest is formula feeding, the outcome of interest is cognitive development, and time is 12 years of age. Breastfeeding is something that is not always encouraged in today’s society. Some hospitals say “breast is best,” however they do not take the time to educate the benefits of exclusively breastfeeding (EBF) to new mothers. I believe if mothers knew that their baby would have a better chance of not getting sick, making good grades, and having less of a chance of being obese,…

During my maternity clinical experience I was able to be a part of the discussion encouraging mothers to breast feed their infants almost weekly. Before attending nursing school I had a limited understanding concerning breast feeding, but I had heard and learned that the benefits of breast feeding far outweigh any other source of infant nutrition. During this course and several other courses in the nursing program, the professors and guest lectures have all emphasized the vast physiological and emotional benefits that stem from breast feeding. I have decided to discuss the benefits of breastfeeding for the critical analysis paper because during my clinical rotations on the floor I noticed that breast feeding is always one of the main focal…

This paper discussed three research articles and one professional online resource regarding interventions to increase adolescent breastfeeding, how relationships with maternal grandmothers and professionals affect infant feeding, and reliability of breastfeeding self-efficacy scores for predicting breastfeeding success. Study participants (n=537) consisted of adolescent mothers ranging from 15-19 years old, with one study listing participants as <20 years old. Dennis, Heaman, and Mossman (2011) suggest breastfeeding self-efficacy can be accurately measured, used to predict breastfeeding success, and influenced by education and interventions. Drawbacks of the chosen articles include statistical inconsistencies, lack of a common definition…

This caused many complications because Nestlé’s baby formula was clearly unaffordable for the poor mothers, but at the same time they were no longer able to produce breast milk for their infants. In later findings it was reported Nestlé’s baby formula was not as healthy and nutritious as they have been marketed as, in actuality Nestlé’s baby formula lacked many key vitamins and minerals that are seen as even more critically important for children and infants in their formative years such as Zinc and Vitamin A. Of note, it has been reported and proven that 6 months of exclusive breast feeding is said to be vital in an infant’s formative years in that it can increase an infant’s chances of survival by 6 times as opposed to if they were drinking Nestlé baby formula exclusively. However, sadly these findings were not available to the many poor mothers in developing countries until it was too late and the damage had been done. Even this day some still do not realize this is the case, and many naïve mothers in developing countries still believe and hold true that Nestlé baby formula is the best and only good option for their…

Breastfeeding, also called nursing, is the process of feeding human breast milk to an infant, either directly from the breast or by expressing (pumping out) the milk from the breast and bottle-feeding it to the infant. Breastfeeding and breast milk provide an infant with essential calories and nutrients.1 According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Policy Statement on Breastfeeding, women who don't have health problems should exclusively breastfeed their infants for at least the first 6 months of life.2 The AAP suggests that a woman should try to breastfeed her infant for the first 12 months of life because of the benefits to both the mother and the infant.3 Although breastfeeding is the recommended method for feeding infants,…

If I were pregnant, I would like to give natural childbirth. Even though it would be more painful than having a cesarean delivery, I still want to give birth this way, because it has many benefits for the mother and the baby. For instance, we will have a quicker recovery time and can take care the baby immediately after birth. Furthermore, natural childbirth process will stimulate the mother's body to lactate early, so that the baby will soon be able to enjoy colostrum. Based on what I know, the baby breastfeeds after the first hours will not have hypoglycemia, which is conducive to the growth and development of the child.…
