Breast Conserving Surgery Research Paper

Personally, I would have surgery done for my treatment. Even though I am a male, if my future wife ends up with breast cancer I would rather have her do surgery than any other type of treatments. I really don’t want to go through chemotherapy or have someone in my family go through that. Knocking on wood, but I have been lucky that cancer has not been a big factor in my family. I believe this is the best way because there is two options when it comes having surgery. Those two options are breast-conserving surgery and mastectomy. If the doctor only finds out that there is only small parts of the breast that has the tumor then I would go with the option of breast-conserving surgery. One major pro is when women can go back to their jobs after a certain time period. “Most women can return to their regular activities within 2 weeks” (1). The con of having this done is that the tumor could of spread in different parts of the breast without the doctor knowing until he/she started surgery. The breast-conserving surgery might make women do breast reconstruction after the tumor is gone. Breast reconstruction really depends on huge of the portion of the breast is removed. “The larger the portion of breast removed, the more likely it is that you will see a change in the shape of the breast afterward” (1). Some people could easily dislike the change of shape that happened after this surgery. “If your breasts look very different after surgery, it may be possible to have some type of reconstructive surgery or to have the size of the unaffected breast reduced to make the breasts more symmetrical” (1).
