Breast cancer is a reference to malignant tumors that have developed within the tissues and cells of the breast. Breast cancer does not only affect women it has been known to affect men as well. So, in speaking of breast cancer, this means that it can start in the cells of the lobules, (milk-producing glands), or in the ducts (the passages of which milk is drained from the lobules to the nipples). There is also a chance that breast cancer can start within the stoma tissues, which are the fatty and fibrous tissues connected to the breast, however this is less common.
Here is a touch of breast anatomy to give individuals a better insight of breast cancer. Breast cancer is known to be a cause of a genetic abnormality always. This means that there was a mistake within the genetic material. However, 90% of breast cancer is due to abnormalities that are a result of the aging process, wear and tear on the body, and genetics. What this all means is that over time, cancer cells can invade healthy breast tissue and then make their way into underarm lymph nodes, (these are small organs that filter foreign substances in the body). When this occurs the cells have a clear pathway to other parts of the body.
Now let’s take into consideration some risk factors. The
