Cancer Treatment

Does anyone know what cancer is and how much it costs? Cancer treatments have a variety of prices, different treatments come with different prices. “Newly approved cancer drugs cost an average of $10,000 per month, with some therapies topping $30,000 per month, according to ASCO, which discussed the costs of cancer care at a recent meeting” (Glover). Each patient's body has different resistance levels to different treatments, all treatments cost differently depending on how badly the cancer is and what stage the cancer is at. Cancer patients have to go through lots of money to survive and they work so hard to make things happen for their families

The longer the patient had the cancer cells in their system the more time the cancer had to spread around to different places, it would be harder to find the starting source of where the cancer started and it will be harder for the doctors to remove and slow down the growth. When the patient has cancer the cancerous cells can spread and create a new cancer, an example is when a patient has Osteosarcoma the cancer from the bones can actually cause Leukemia to appear. “Cancer cells differ from normal cells in many ways that allow them to grow out of control and become invasive” ("What Is Cancer?). Cancer can be difficult to detect and treat because “There are more than 100 types of cancer” (“Cancer Types”). Some examples of cancer are Osteosarcoma (cancer in the bones), Gastric cancer (cancer in the stomach), Leukemia (cancer in the blood) and Ovarian cancer (cancer in one or both ovaries). The government should give cancer patients more assistance because cancer is all different and they can harm patients in different …show more content…
When an athlete gets injured the athlete needs to go through physical therapy before they can go back in the game, it is the same thing for cancer patients because cancer damages the patient's good cells and causes the patient pain and suffering. The government should consider providing cancer patients with therapy because receiving cancer treatments every week can mentally and physically make the patient tired.

The government is raising the prices for cancer treatments and medical items year after year, “The IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics expects cancer treatment costs to hit $150 billion by 2020, up from $107 billion in 2015” (Ramsey). Dr. Derek Raghavan the head of The Institute for Healthcare only cares about the prices Dr. Raghavan states that “We are spending more and more time thinking about cost for patients”(Ramsey), meaning they are raising the prices for all treatment, medical items and hydration for all cancer
