The night before the hunt I could not sleep. I was excited of the unknown like a child on Christmas Eve. I sent my two team members a text reminding them of the time and address of where we needed to meet. As I am getting ready I have so many questions running through my mind. “What should I wear?” “How many people will be there?” “What are some of the things we will have to do?” I decided to wear leggings, a tank top and a jacket since I knew they would be giving us shirts once we got there. Once I am all ready to go, I call my best friend who lives in condos a few blocks up from me to let her know that I am on my way to get her. Once I arrive to my best friend’s house she comes out and jumps in the car and starts asking me the same questions I was already thinking earlier. The beginning of the hunt takes place at an elementary school in Lewis Center, Oh. The school is …show more content…
This is only the sixth year of the hunt and I hope with time it gains more popularity. Even though we had a lot of fun, the main focus was to bring awareness to Inflammatory Breast Cancer, which is a very rare form of breast cancer that a lot of times go undetected because there are no real symptoms. A lot of women are initially told everything is fine because Inflammatory Breast Cancer does not show up on breast ultrasounds or mammograms. Being that I work in the imaging department at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, I had never heard of this particular type of breast cancer before. Being able to take part in this hunt and learn about a new cancer and bring awareness to it all at the same time was a bonus. I set a goal of collecting one hundred dollars worth of donations to help fund research. I was able to collect seventy dollars which I was still proud of because I had never participated in any type of race for the cure or walk where the goal was to collect donations for

Each step is precise, each movement fluid, and every sense awake, ready. The hunter is alive, adrenaline coursing through his blood. Rustling leaves scream his prey’s hiding place. His body moves without thought, instincts becoming all that he knows. The hunted recognizes this rhythm of feet pounding the ground, knows it better than his own heartbeat.…

In her article “I Did Everything Right And I Still Got Breast Cancer,” Suzanne Gilberg-Lenz gives her voice to the “Cancer prevention” that Cancer.org staff, in “Diet and Physical Activity: What’s the Cancer Connection?” seems to want to defend. I say “seems” because, like Suzanne, I’m not exactly sure there are ways to really prevent cancer. If it’s anything like what Cancer.org is adovcating when they call for a life of being physically active and eating healthy foods with a focus on plant-based foods then, I’m all for their program.…

Today Kit and i led the group to Izaak Walton lake. I was nervous this morning for taking such a big role. I didn’t want the power to get to my head and end up being mean or over demanding. In the early morning i went around telling people to get water and start undoing their tents. Surprisingly we ate, broke down our gear, and began our stretch circle forty minutes before the usual.…

A Taste of Domesticity in Stokes State Forest Throughout my four years of high school, I had never had a friend come back from a post-prom weekend in Wildwood and describe to me what sounded like a “good time.” The stories they told always had the same synopsis that centered around drunken fun and even drunker stupidity. Hordes of juniors and seniors slept in small dirty motel rooms. They spent way too much money on alcohol, and they often got swindled into paying hundreds of dollars to stay in an otherwise dirt cheap motel because no decent place would allow teenagers to party like they did. They sat in their hotel rooms and drank the beautiful New Jersey beach days away, waiting for the sun to set so they could continue their drunken…

The Adrenaline that a hunter feels being in the top of a tree stand waiting for the perfect deer to hunt is absolutely incredible, however hunters are not always lucky enough to find their prey. My dad and I began going around the ranch a day before we went hunting, we looked around to see where the biggest deer’s were located. We tested and align the rifles, to leave everything prepared to go hunting the following day at dawn. We were very positive that we were going to be lucky enough to hunt a big trophy deer, tough the results we had were never crossed our minds.…

I feel it is worth noting that in August of 2015 my family was given the unfortunate news of my mom's diagnosis of cancer. My mom spent the next couple of months in and out of the hospital dealing with surgery, chemotherapy, radiation treatment and various other procedures pertaining to her diagnosis. My dad’s work schedule prevented him from taking on the roles that my mom previously filled. This is where I had to pick up more responsibility around the house. I was responsible for the daily routines of my 3 younger siblings ranging from 2 years to 11 years of age all the while juggling a full workload at school and sitting on the executive of different school clubs.…

It shows who you are as a person and reflects the positive character traits you have. Relay for life is a life-changing event that allows everyone in communities across the globe to come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones, and help fight back. Relay for life has allowed me to encounter many people who all share a common purpose — to support the American Cancer Society's mission. This event made me realize that everyone can make a difference and that every person counts.…
