Breaking a social norm might seem easy, yet when it’s time to actually break it it’s nerve wracking. On a Wednesday afternoon around 1:30, Jerry and I lunched at Chili’s located in Miami Gardens. Approximately, there were about 12-15 observers not including the waiters. Because the bar area was the most crowded area in the restaurant, I decided to lunch there. Majority of the population were African-American male and female, yet there were a couple of white observers. The restaurant wasn’t too loud nor too quiet, but everyone was conversing. My appearance was the usually, nice outfit, proper greeting, and a joyful tone. As I think about what I’m about to do my heart starts racing. Breaking a norm creates a lot of bravery, but I handled it as if I’ve done it before. I felt like all eyes were on me.

Once she started to go in depth with the instruction and rules, they are no way I’m going to participate in this project! While I’m sitting in class overthinking I immediately mumble “I’m taking this lost for sure”, but she stated the percentage of the project my mind changed. “I have to do this project; it shouldn’t be bad.” Before, I thought of where I should start this project I became nervous, but excited. It’s something unusually, unique, and unladylike. The honest reason on why I felt such a way because my family always informed that women shouldn’t do certain things at a dinner table especially if you’re companied by a gentleman. So, during this norm I had thoughts about what my partner would think of me, what the other men would think of me, would they judge me, would they talk about me to their guest, and etc. During the activity, it got better. I laughed and careless of what they would think. Not only this was an assignment, but it was also I eye opener. The response I received were
