Agatha's heart first breaks into half in the first grade. It's still when she's small and chubby-cheeked, with an unfortunate bowl-cut resting on her head. But it's quite a shame that a six-year old heart has already broken in two.

His name is Aaron Cho, and she, childishly, was sure that he was the love of her life.

Her father had brought her meal that she had thought was fancy at the time: a chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-A. However cheap the sandwich was, it was worlds away from Aaron's clumpy ravioli, and his oily string beans. When she saw the longing on his face, she

She remembers her parents informing her of moving to a new neighborhood, so she travels with them to their new house, and looks in awe at the hanging chandeliers and large rooms. But it wasn't right. It wasn't home. It didn't have her haphazard paintings on the walls. It didn't have stars stuck onto the ceilings, lighting up her nights until she fell into a peaceful slumber. It was empty. But her parents say, oh Agatha, this will be our new house! Isn't it pretty? It will be wonderful, and you'll have many many nice new friends, and you'll be very very happy! And when she complains of the house being empty and lonely: well of course, Agatha! It'll be fine...we still need to move our belongings and furniture into the house. We promise, you'll love the house, and be very happy! And they repeat it again and again, explaining the move: you'll be happy, you'll be happy, you'll be

The Bargain Mart in “A Map of the City” eventually closes because of financial difficulties, and its closing makes a profound personal impact on Miriam’s father’s sense of belonging, and he is physically displaced from his family. As a consequence of the store closing, the family is forced to move out their house into an apartment (Thien 328). Miriam’s father feels like a failure, he is said to feel “only despair” at this change (Thien 328). Miriam’s father is suggested to feel like he cannot do well in Canada, is not a good businessman, and is unable to support his family. All of these claims were anchored to the store, thus it is suggested that he does not feel like he belongs anymore, as these are the things he previously valued.…

Atwood, Indiana I would not call this my favorite place, but since I do not actually have a favorite place, this is my only option. My great-grandma died on October third of 2012 (I remember death dates, and yes, I know that it is weird), but that day was oddly one of my favorites. Her name was Norma Jean Irwin, and she was so small and frail, yet stronger than a horse pulling a carriage. She grew up in Indiana, where the house is currently standing, and lived as a farm wife, which of course contributed to her strength.…
