“Outside Life Me”

“Welcome little child to your darkest fears inside, come and join the fun, take a journey through the night. Watch the closet doors, or else the night consumes you more, taking every piece of innocence that never sees the light.” – “Break My Mind” by DAGames, from Five Nights at Freddy’s 4. I have a few things I do enjoy doing after school, but a few are Playing Five Nights at Freddy’s, making Youtube videos, Playing Minecraft, and writing stories on Wattpad. First of all, Playing Five Nights at Freddy’s, if you do not know, that is a game you can get onto your computer. When I play it, it has me playing as the security night guard, can’t choose any other character, and watch over the place. Sounds simple enough, but

Wattpad is a online site that you can write and share your own original stories, or fanfictions about anything. I go on my Wattpad account, I have a few of my own works, but otherwise I am pretty popular for my fanfictions. Meaning, that my followers call me “TheAlaskanHybrid-Senpai”. I don’t tell them my real name either, one of those sites that I also don’t like sharing my personal information on. I write so many things on there that it use to be just one of those sites id go on for just being bored and wanting something to do, till others started to notice my stories and now it’s come down to deadlines, and pleads of updates from my followers. It does it over whelming sometimes, and most of the time I tell myself that I should be getting paid for this, but I can’t be paid for writing fanfictions. I didn’t use to be so popular, in fact I had less followers, by a lot, than my friend Trace. He had introduced me to this site and got me started on writing. But now, I have 70 followers, and he still has 51. He and I had made a contest before I got so many followers. He said I could not beat him in followers I said I would, and I have, he owes me a huge container of Redvines still. I like going on Wattpad a lot, when I have random ideas for my stories, usually it takes awhile for someone to write a story, planning it out and such, but I just go on the site, look at what I written so far and go from there. I basically mean that I just type whatever comes into my mind, and it becomes a story or

In the book "If I Ever Get Out of Here" the author Eric Gansworth writes about the dangers of assumptions. He writes about this theme throughout the book by introducing situations in which an assumption of a character or a group, often times based on race, turns out to be incorrect and leads to issues between the two people or groups. Lewis and his family both make assumptions about George's family because he is from off the reservation and there are assumptions made about Indians and Lewis by teachers, classmates, store workers, and more. While Lewis is being bullied by Evan, a kid at his school, many people didn't believe that the situation was as bad as Lewis claimed. When discussing the problem in the lunchroom some of the kids agreed that Lewis is just "making the easy Indian claim" (p. 207).…

As one of seven billion, people have an intrinsic want for distinction. Individuals want to stand out. We are intelligent beings who have the ability to change their identity, today this notion is becoming increasingly easier with technology and changes in social dynamics. We’re allowed to remake ourselves in whatever way we see fit, in the 90’s TV show “My So Called Life”, the main character, Angela, enters the complicated process of doing just that. In the show’s pilot it’s obvious that Angela, almost like a modern Holden Caulfield, is seriously questioning social norms.…

To his only son and every person of color, Ta-Nehisi Coates pens an open letter within the pages of Between the World and Me. Reliving a year full of tragedy found in 2015 and remembering a lifetime of pain, Coates offers to his readers through vivid storytelling, an almost entirely pessimistic perspective of life in a black body. The strength of black bodies is often circumvented by the frailty projected onto them by those with “the need to be white.” In the gaps of Coates’s pessimism is an abounding hope he cherishes for his son and others. This hope is not unlike the hope a parent has for their child to live a life better than they did but is better characterized and akin to the euphoric hope of Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy.…

Being forced to abandon a safe haven can cause one to hopelessly cling to the memories created there. In Gerda Klein’s memoir, All But My Life, she and her family are forced to leave their house. In this excerpt, she wanders throughout her garden for one last time. She then starts to reminisce about all the memories created there and realizes that her life will never be the same again, she has truly lost the innocence that her childhood once possessed. Through the use of concrete diction and juxtaposing imagery, Klein establishes a nostalgic yet sorrowful tone to illustrate how one can cling to their past yet cannot avoid the inevitable future, which causes them to see the world around them in a new light.…

As I finished reading “Between the World and Me” by Ta-Nehisi Coates, I was left in a bit of a trance. Before entering this class, I can say I haven’t really read any African American Literature. Even though being from a predomanlitly black area of Atlanta originally , I always strived away from black literature. The literature is so strong and brings such emotions when reading. I always wanted to believe we lived in a perfect world, with little to no harm.…

“All Around Me” by Flyleaf is a song sung through the eyes of the protagonist, which is indicated by the use of: I, I’m, my, and me. Though listeners would view “All Around Me” as a song of the grieving of a loved one, a deeper look into the lyrics reveals a tale of a drug addict’s face-off between her former self and the drug that she is addicted to. Imagine being in an emotional game tug-of-war between an addiction and your life. Who would be there for you? We can see this face-off through her: outcries, reaction to seeing her former self, act of transcending to a secret place, repetition of “I’m alive,” exchange with the drug, and surrender.…
